Beginner C1 WH Hurricane Fit

Missiles will only really do full damage to targets at or above a certain size / speed (depending on missile type) due to explosion calculations against target speed and size. Where as a turret if used correctly can splat a very small target for almost full damage, due to tracking calculation against target speed / angular velocity.

For this reason i consider that turrets are better than missiles if you fly with their tracking considerations in mind. Missiles are easy street, but that doesn't mean they're the best.

Also no idea where the poster above by a few posts got the idea that Hurricane's are un-menouverable..

The fit I gave you was for the Hurricane Fleet Issue which has an extra high slot compared to the standard Hurricane.

and was surprised by how similar all of the ships are compared to the difference in their apparent usefulness.

I would highly recommend you download EFT or pyfa and play with some fittings. These programs allow you to see the base and modified stats of ships as well import your character API to see how it will perform with your skills. In most cases the "effective hitpoints" (HP factoring in resists) are a more useful metric than the base shield/armor/structure HP. EFT and Pyfa will show you this and many other metrics (speed, agility, DPS, damage per second tank, capacitor use, and many others), allowing a much more thorough comparison than the compare tool in game.

Basically the fit is what makes the ship useful, not its base stats. Just a difference in slot layout means a huge difference in performance. Once you factor in resist and damage bonuses and the like, you will see clear strengths and weaknesses emerge for different ships.

You are definitely on the right track though and seem to like theorycrafting so I'm sure you will love EFT. Optimizing your fit is half the fun IMO Big smile

All of this info. is making me second guess the choice of Hurricane, which would feel like a lot of wasted SP.
It won't be wasted. One of the reason Eve Players stay with the game so long is because it takes years to fly everything.

Besides, you're Minmatar -- make your race proud and fly the Hurricane for a while.

Update: I've begun soloing some WH stuff w/ a Hurricane, using an altered-Paranoid Lloyd fit:

Quote:

Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I

Large Shield Extender I
Large Shield Extender I
10MN Afterburner I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field I

Core Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I
425mm Medium 'Scout' Autocannon I

Medium Core Defense Field Purger I

It uses only Tech 1 stuff because I don't have the skills for Tech 2 yet... and no drones. I've tried using Hobgoblin I drones, but they get blown up nigh immediately—and I can't yet sacrifice a mid-slot for ECM. It takes a while, but it works, and I'm enjoying the clear.

So far I've been able to take on things in the C3 gas sites. Training up for more Tech II stuff so things will go a little faster (and I also need some drones, because I think they add a solid amount of DPS).

Use Limited Adaptive Invulnerability Field I, it will save cap (and CPU, not really relevant here)
Use Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction, it adds almost 2K ehp as opposed to the Large Shield Extender I

Drones may get killed pretty quick but keep in mind that is also mitigated DPS on you. If you practice pulling them it eventually becomes second nature to keep your eye on the health meters (make sure the window is where it is easy to see), training Drone Durability will help as well.

Excellent—will do. Thank you for the help, both in this thread and in others.

I've just realized that the C3 was a Pulsar, so my shields were buffed by like 50%. I'm about to give it another go in a regular C3. Let's see how this goes!
