New Beta Maping is Making Exploration a Pain.

Trying to get the new map work well in exploration is drving me crazy. Is there a way to turn this off for exploration?

The game settings menu has an option to revert to the old map in there somewhere. For now. I sincerely hope the "beta" map is in fact beta, and will receive (more than) a few revisions.

you can go through the menu to get the old map back, just put it on your neocom. just don't click the map button on the probe scanner or you'll just open the new map

F10 is the keyboard shortcut for the original map, it still works.

Adding my .02 ISK: the new map is hopeless for scanning. If CCP can't figure out a way to let players easily manipulate probes on the new map it will have to stay in Beta forever.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for things like "Show route" in the contracts anymore.

As for the rest: Complain here. Flood the devs with complaints and let them suffer. Here is the right place to do so, not in this thread.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

My biggest issue with the new map is the lack of a proper pointer (yes, I will post in that other thread too ;) ). The circle is not as precise as an arrow or the square currently available in the system map. Plus, with the overlap of various icons it can become very painful to move the probes around.

Should have a preset that automatically allows one to turn off various map symbols so they don't get in the way and the circle as a pointer needs to replaced with a proper and precise pointer - arrow or the existing square.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

Every time I hear someone say something like this, I go to the new map and look for what's wrong with it. I still haven't figured out what the problem is. It seems to have the same functionality as the old map. What, specifically, is causing you trouble with the new map?

Icons often overlap the probes, making it really annoying to scan near planets
If you double click to center the probes while zoomed in, it zooms you out which pisses me off
The bubbles feels less responsive when trying to resize the probes
The probe window is constantly hidden behind the map (may be a weird complain, but it actually makes it annoying).

Those things are not small things, it's really what makes the map proper for scanning. For everything else, it's absolutely beautiful

Agree entirely here, looks great but is functionally annoying for scanning. The zooming out when centring the probes is particularly annoying. If anything the map needs tabs to allow pre-sets for styles, pretty full map, nice clean scanning map, stats based tab for losec runs etc etc.

I like how it looks but will stick with the old version for now as on my spare laptop it is just too slow.

  • The zooming is a plague. It's inertial is way too strong to actually do something with it in the same way the old map allows it.
  • I cannot zoom as far into the system as I can with the old map which turns dscanning POS around planets into a harder chore.
  • When I am zoomed in quite a bit into, let's say 8 AU probes, they jitter and wobble around like crazy.
  • As mentioned above, grabbing a probe's sphere to resize the radius is more comparable to RNG than anything else.
  • Not directly related to scanning is the still horrendous bookmark situation on the universe map.

I'm not going into information accuracy and display here.

I found the solution.. it was to remove the mouse and keyboard and plug them into a new computer.. I now have a better computer than 99% of the people who play EVE...no trouble with exploration at all now. lol.

For me the β-Map was ok for exploration and total useless for navigation. Now with the recent changes it is useless for both. First of it doesn't work in wh space. Second, now there is too much interference with the navigation lines etc. Changing the dots for circles was a very stupid idea. I don't have to see the streingth status on the map, it is perfectly visible in the scan window.

It is in beta, after all. Keep pestering and it will get improved. That said, I can't help but agree.

This is a big one for me. I'm not a fan of the clutter when adjusting probes.

You obviously don't do much scanning yourself I assume then. Otherwise it would be quite obvious.

As others mentioned before:

- The icon overlap makes it a pain to move probes by comparison to the old map.
- The circle pointer, although aesthetically appealing, lacks the functional precision of the current pointer in the old map.
- Scrolling and panning has a sluggish effect that makes moving and zooming in the new map a quite unpleasant experience for people scanning (not to mention that it adds stress and greatly slows down the process of repositioning the probes).

Regarding the last point, they tried to implement that same effect in the old map a few years ago when they added the ability of controlling all probes at once using the alt key. Back then people complained about it so much that they removed it almost immediately. Hopefully they will take the same sensible action with this new map and put functionality and player experience before the "it's pretty!" effects.

I'll weigh in and say that I like the new map and I don't have problems with exploration with it. The only part of it I really dislike is the circle cursor. I'm not sure who though that having a cursor with no defined "pointer" was a good idea.

Otherwise, I actually find it easier to use than the old map for exploration. Though I will agree about the inertia on the zoom, since someone mentioned that. It's really high.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno
