I have not been playing so much lately, but haven't noticed anything unusual since the patch. I've run several ded sites in empire with no issue (aside from crap loot from overseers Cool).

Maybe, MAYBE, you're ship doesn't have much cap and isn't making the full warp? Crazy I know, but it can happen.

Actually this would explain the empty space....

At least you're finding sites, No kidding now, the last SEVENTEEN SITES I have probed down in several systems spread many jumps apart have ALL BEEN WORMHOLES.

Absolutely doing my head in, I'd be happy with any other kind of result.

Empty system with four signatures? Four wormholes.

I just came back to EVE after a few months away, been probing since probes were first introduced and I always really enjoyed it but it just feels really worthless now, invested hours for no return at all. At least mining I'd have made some isk. Nobody buys WH bookmarks anymore.

Perhaps null-sec scanning is different but as I'm not currently in a corp that's not something available to me.

Don't even bother trying...when you do eventually find that coveted 4/10 or watch it will already have been completed 5 minutes before you found it because every system in high sec has 85792341098341 people in it.

Also, this is during non peak hours.

A couple of questions that might help solve your problem:

Are you scanning with a MWD online on your cheetah? The cap penalty could cause you to not be able to warp all the way to sites in some of the larger systems.

Also, where in the system are you scanning from? Most people warp to sun / top planet to scan from the middle of the system, but if you're scanning from where you jumped in and also running with the cap penalty from a MWD, it could exacerbate the problem of not having enough cap to warp long distances to sites.

Hope this helps

Yes. You should all give up and stop looking for those sites. And I'm not just saying that so that i can get them ALL. ALL OF THEM. MINE!!!

Not sure about the Cheta, but I remember that the Probe was notorious for this problem. When doing autopiot I would watch it's cap fail part way through warp at least 20% of the time trying to cross systems.

There is no MWD.

Anyway, why would I get the dialogue pop-ups etc. if I hadn't even warped far enough?

And I just scan from near the jump gate.

You will get a pop-up when you initiate warp, it doesn't matter if you actually go there or stop your ship or don't make it the full distance.

I don't know why you're bothering to do sites in highsec, Mnemo keeps stealing them all whenever I try :(

Probe cap sucks but Cheeta's is good enough that you should not have cap problems in hi sec.

I just exited a station (something RARE!), kicked my probes in the nuts and they popped some sites with stuff inside.

Maybe get to less trafficked systems? If I recall correctly the zerg immediately clears the obvious / most trafficked systems and the sites repop in the "no one bothers getting there" middle of nowhere systems.

I dunno, you spend months training skills, you buy ships and modules, you fly around for hours scanning etc. - and you still get nothing to show for it :(

I was just trying to find something to do.

Doesn't really matter now - my subscription expires on February 28th anyway. Thought this part of gameplay might give me a reason to renew but never mind.

The amount of fun returned is much less than the effort required to reach that "fun", in my opinion - like the rest of Eve-Online.

Personally, I find it hard to get ANY gratification. Just never managed to figure it out I guess - even though my account is 4 years old.

Thank you for the helpful advice.

And I've never played WoW.

Find a different area? I hadn't done much HS scanning in the last few months, but tried some last night. It does seem that High sec exploration has increased a lot. But I still found some decent sites.

I'm just a noob, but thought I should say something of my experiences exploring. i don't know why you're having all this trouble finding anything. I find sites all the time in high and low sec and have never experienced the issues you described unless its a plex that someone just finished or is halfway through. (I do like the ones like the 3/10 serp plex that requires you to blow up the structure in the final room to get the loot and happen upon one where somebody kindly killed all the rats and left the structure for you ;)

Anyway, you need to be looking at your star map stats for avg pilots in a system and follow a route to scan through. If I pop into a system with more than 6 or 7 in local i will usually just skip it. I've been running low sec angel space a lot recently and have had far better results with rad/mag sites, but fewer plexes. I run in a cloaky gila with sisters probes, no grav rigs, and only astrometric rangefinding 2, and astrometrics 3 and there is nothing i can't pinpoint in high or low that i've come across. It seems like radar sites are easier to pinpoint in low than the tougher ones in high. Have to use 6 probes though. And I never spend more than 2 minutes per sig. Its nice to run 3 radar sites back to back in the same system, even with people looking for you with combat probes. Anyway, exploring is a lot of fun, more so in low sec/null. There are better sources of info for exploring so i won't go on about it.

Hope you stick with it

The best thing, and the worst thing about sandbox games is that you get what you built.
