Didn't paying by paypal NOT do re ocurring payments?

Please return the tick box and I'll re-sub my second account as normal but I don't want to have a re-occurring payment on my paypal account when there is no financial incentive to have one or other justification in terms of convenience to me. It may have massive advantages to CCP the company but it has no advantages to me, the customer.

I like the fact that I can let my accounts time out for a few days/weeks if I'm a bit short on money or waiting for pay day. I don't want to have to go through the bother of cancelling a payment plan through paypal every time I want to have a little rest from the game or if I'm going away from home or on holiday.

This is financially underhand and, as far as I know, unannounced to the player base. This may suit CCP's financial objectives but it is devious and offers nothing to the customer. I believe I should be able to buy a monthly subscription to the game a payment at a time to allow me to manage my financial commitments.

I would be grateful if someone could comment on the viability of returning the tick box. I'm a long term player of many years standing and I have used this method of payment happily for almost all the time I have been in Eve. I would not want to have a re-occurring payment on my paypal account - why can't I just buy access at a month a time?

I'm amazed that no one noticed the small disclaimer

" All prices shown in USD

Please note: You are signing up for a recurring PayPal subscription and will be billed at the end of each time period until you cancel or change your method of payment.."

says it right there when you chose paypal. The recurring checkbox has been gone for a while iirc. Not sure how long but a while.

to the op: Ghost training in eve has been dead for close to 6 years now... where have you been?

Seems kind of underhand to remove the tick box without making an announcement to give folk a heads up. Unless of course an official announcement was made.. in which case I certainly missed it.

Afafik the tick box was still there when I did my last round of subscriptions so this must be a relatively recent change. Had an account due to run out of time later this month but decided to use plex instead of paying via paypal.

Glad I did now because I might well have overlooked the missing tick box.

Why would they need to announce it if they put the warning there? Can't you read before agreeing to a payment term?

Yes I could read. I read before agreeing when I first subscribed.

Could CCP have made an announcement to draw attention to this? Yes to that also.

Why would any reputable company not notify its customers of changes to terms/conditions with regard to payments?

Would you be as chilled if you had say, a mortgage that had it's t&c changed without you being notified?

A financial transaction is a financial transaction regardless of the amount involved. If a company moves the goalposts without informing customers it kind of calls into question the ethical stance of that company I reckon.

From CCP knowledge base:

Quote----What is PayPal and how do I use it to pay for my EVE subscription?

PayPal is a payment service through which users can pay for their EVE accounts. The service provides an alternative payment option for users that may not have access to or wish to use another form of payment.

You will need to have a PayPal account to use this method, if you do not please create an account via their website.

During the registration process you can choose between linking your credit card, debit card or banking account (availability depending on your location) to your PayPal account, which will then be used to pay for your EVE subscription.

You can choose to make the payments recurring by checking the appropriate check box and should you wish to cancel the recurring payments follow the cancellation directions posted here.

Please note: eChecks cannot be used through PayPal at the moment. We are working on making it available.---unquote

Precisely mate, as we've both noticed, the CHOICE is no longer available.

Removing choices (particularly in matters financial) from customers to favour the retailer is never a good thing.

Please return the tick box.

The only 'extra' money CCP will make is from people who forget to cancel the agreement, as the people who have wanted to pay a monthly subscription have visited the site once a month anyway to pay their subs and the people who want a yearly/on-going subscription will already have opted for it as it offers a discount.

By removing the one off monthly option you are not creating 'convenience' you are just annoying and inconveniencing the people who want to pay monthly by paypal by removing financial flexibility in the way that we interface with the product.

Plus, under the new system, you add a new layer of annoyance that requires me to cancel an agreement on two accounts if I don't want to pay or can't pay on the exact payment date. Several days later, I then have to start that agreement again with the reality looming that I may need to cancel it again in a few weeks time. That's bonkers when you can just leave that tick box in there and allow people to pay for access when they want to have access.

Eve has always been a game that people drift in and out of, it's very intense and time consuming and that can take its toll. But one of the strengths of Eve is that people always want to come back after a break. Removing the most convenient way of doing this is bad for customers and ultimately bad for the game as more casual players will be disinclined to become involved if the reality is a re-occurring payment system that lacks flexibility.

Oh wait: they billed my Paypal without a warning...

...but that's a game two can play, as usually I don't have any funds on my Paypal.

So, good luck billing me again without a warning, CCP. Blink
