My suggestion for the ship to focus on is cynabal.

May be too expensive for newer PvPers to be using but one that they will undoubtfully face at some time or another.

Dual-rep Tempest and/or the Harbinger as a solo ship.

My sugestion would be not only to discuss how to use a particular ship, but also maybe how best to beat it, in context of this being about bringing back solo.

Maybe tactics in combating ECM on the field such as dual boxers using falcons, use of F.O.F.'s and such. I guess what I'm saying is sense ECM is possibly the most powerful tool of a small gang next to moving around (speed, agility and splitting groups) when encountering such a threat how best to deal with it. ECM not limited to TD's, Damps, Electronic Counter measures, and ECM drones though SB's where covered i think in an earlier video on that.

I know in my previous post and know I'm beating on ECM a lot, but a good small gang may implement it properly, causing a rather frustrating time. I know this because I have been the guy in the falcon pissing people off, and now trying to solo and get better I'm finding more and more why people sent me all those nasty eve mails. Of course have your carrier with a eccm and a OH'd sensor strength of 171 jammed by a EC300 nearly sent me into a rage.

Any who love the shows, they have been most helpful.

Hey Kil2 & Kovorix, I just wanted to jump in and say I love the podcast and solo commentary vids. I've not played properly since about 07 with a small comeback in 10 but after seeing your stuff linked in an EVE thread on a gaming forum I had to resubscribe since it brings back the best solo/small gang memories when i flew with Infod.

Looking forward to listening to the rest of them!

You often talk about using less popular ships to get fights because people seem to think they flown by newbies, It'd be great to hear some advise about flying Tier 1 BC's - Ferox and Cyclone in particular.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions guys :) we will likely be doing different ships for fighting and for flying against, because for us they are often mutually exclusive.

Hey Kil2 and Kovorix!

Just got my first solo pvp roam done, thanks to you guys!

I was in a AC shield hurricane and i got two different cynabals into armor, before they warped out because of their superior speed.
Then i made a couple of stupid mistakes - which i learned from and will never make again - and died.

It was a lot of fun, i already bought a new ship, and will go out again tonight!

P.S.: I was almost always mwding away from the cynabals, to be safe myself. One of the assumptions i got was that a cynabal is a much softer ship than a hurricane, and i should of just went in for the kill. Am i wrong?

The scenario: i am aligning to the sun with mwd on, at 85% shield, 50km away from the gate which i came through from, cynabal in pursuit 20km away at 50% of his shield. Another cynabal and a hurricane land on gate therefore 50km away from me.

Should i have tried to just go in close to the cynabal, to finish him off? i would have been happy with the kill and inevitable death after that.

Thanks for the shows and the youtube commentaries!

Cool fight and difficult scenario!

You are right that cynabals are softer than the hurricane (typically about 3/4 the ehp), but they're also harder to track though due to small sig and high speed. Still, in a 1v1 you're experience was very typical - you'll win the dps battle but he'll virtually always be able to warp out.

I'm assuming your hurricane fit has no hard tackle (ie long point fit), so in my mind the only way your kamikaze would have worked was in the event that 1. he had put in enough mwd cycles to deplete his cap reservoir significantly and 2. you got in close enough to put enough neut cycles on him to shut his mwd off. Otherwise as long as he's relatively competent he would have been able to get away, leaving you to your death by his friends. I know it's not a nice answer, but in my experience all you can assume against cynabals when in a hurricane is the ability to force them off, not kill them. Sad

Thanks for the answer!

I'm glad i didn't try the kamikaze now, i probably would have died much sooner.
Would a sort of bait, short point be viable to hunt mwd cruiser hulls?

And as a last question if you don't mind: AC or Arty hurricane for solo low sec roam?

Yeah, a scram would be better for killing cynabals and vagabonds and the like. But it also reduces your possible engagement range to things you can beat within 10k or so. So unless you KNOW you'll be facing a cynabal, I would still likely fit a long point when shield fitting a hurricane. As far as other ships, I find tier 3 BCs to be better cynabal killers - more damage, range, and speed (just hope they arent dual prop scram fit Cry).

As far as AC vs Arty, it's kind of a tradeoff between versatility and pure ranged damage. Because of the nature of solo, I'd take ACs in 95% of cases, but I think this might be a good topic of discussion for a future podcast. Big smile

Also I realize my response here in essence has been to fit cookie cutter. HOWEVER this is a questionable conclusion and something I'm looking forward to talking about more on the podcast.

Sometimes a couple neuts are as good as a scram, especially against cruisers with horrendous cap problems to begin with (like vagas and cynabals). A good tactic is to take advantage of how long you can burn flat-out in a battlecruiser and just hound them until they get within neut range and 720 noscope headshot their capacitor: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11650540

So we go from discussion of boosting 100mn AB cynabals with Garmon last week, to falcon fitting tips and suggestions of strength in numbers this week... Cool

But in all seriousness, good stuff guys. Keep it up (not the falcon stuff though).

Zach Donnell please make a new video.

Kil2 & Kovorix, I love your efforts so much! I'm used to the norm being bitter 'vets' so any excuse to champion good attitudes is welcome ♥

Also, props for getting in touch with Prom, I look forwards to that discussion very much. He does a good job of upsetting people that rely on support for their 'solo' so that should be interesting.

P.S. You inspired my to step up from frigates finally. Not that I think frigs aren't viable solo, I've been doing it for years and have a lot of fun, but because I realise I need to step out of my comfort zone and watching your vids makes me realise it's pretty much the same thing as solo frigs..... just a little.... heavier!

I know im posting on an alt but I would gush on my main were it not forum banned at the moment :embarrassed:

Hornet EC-300 x2

For any Falcon pilots (alts) who were wondering how they should fit their Falcon. One of each smartbomb to be able to kill any drones (your only weakness), multispec so you can jam any ship, mwd so you can burn towards the drones to their surprise and the rest for capacitor recharge so that you don't have to worry about cap. Drones in case the jam fairy is in a bad mood.

I'm so loved. I have stuff in the works, but no ETA.

But to give this post relevant content, you guys should open up a pub chat in game.

Just gotta say, this podcast got me back into solo'ing. Still lollin' about Russians getting a Nyx to help camp a gate for my solo cane, and they still lost their Malediction to me. 3 kills to 4 deaths in 0.0 so far and loving every second.
