Hi folks,

I'm missing Genetic Engineering (yes, I know it doesn't do anything). I know of others who are missing creation only skills, like Mnemonics.

Oddly enough, DED connections is still in the database.

Anybody else have this issue after the patch?

Standard question - have you cleared your cache? Seems like you've been smacked with the infamous skill bug.

I have also lost some skills. So far I have lost level 4 and 5 of my caldari strategic cruiser skill. I hope a Dev can look into this as I have no idea what other skills I may have lost. Dev's please please look into this!

Cleared the cashe on all 7 accounts.. even ran on several other computers... No luck. Random SP and Skills are missing from several of my accounts. What was fun was when EvEMon and EvE Board still showed my skills and SP before being updated by CCP.

Again, it it was not for the fact that I could no longer equip T2 modules with one of my accounts I might never have noticed that I was missing over 5 skills.

There has been a skill clean up in the SDE (static data export). Several non public skill have been removed.

I seem to be missing the Genetic Engineering skill as well. Any update on the status of this issue?

Seems the official word on Genetic Engineering is that it has been permanently removed, with nothing more than simple skillpoint reimbursement offered, and only after bringing it to the attention of CCP.

Dr. Caymus brought up some good points to me:

  • What of Mnemonics, Black Market Trading?

  • Why not remove DED Connections, the useless Social Skill?

  • Why leave the Mobile refinery skills?

  • Why leave the Salvage drone operation skill?

CCP, can we get a decent response from a DEV please?
This seems to be a mistake with a poor follow-up. There was no mention of doing this in any patch note, and you are disappointing your long-term players. Thank you.

How about filing a petition?

It seems to me this corner of the forums is rather devoid of dev responses.

Do any of those skills do anything?

Yes Leetha, they do. Several things.

1. They add to the mystique and lore of the game. What are these skills and where do they come from? Are they from some lost or ancient race yet to be discovered by the rest of EVE? What powers to those that possess them gain?

2. They differentiate characters that pioneered the game in its early days, and chose race, bloodline and ancestory that awareded a rare and unique skill.

3. To the down-side, they create a perceived (or real, to skill collectors) disadvantage to the rest of the EVE population, as they are skills that are unobtainable to most players.

That said, I am in support of the decision to remove the skills as long as it is done fairly, consistently and impartially, as their removal would be best for the game in that the down-side outweighs any advantages at this stage of its evolution.

Fair, consistent and impartial removal would entail a number of actions which as of yet have not been taken:

1. The plans for skill removal would be publicly communicated. Thus far, the skills that have been removed have been done quietly without communication.

2. All such skills would be removed. Thus far, Genetic Engineering and Mnemonics have been removed but Black Market Trading remains in the game. Four other "temporarily seeded but not implemented" skills remain in the game. DED Connections, never seeded or implemented, remains in the database.

3. Skill points trained in these skills would be reimbursed upon their removal. Thus far, no skill points have been reimbursed for the skills removed, but it is my understanding that they will be.

4. Any such skill remaining in the game would be seeded such that every player has a chance to acquire it.

I trust that our developers will bring all of this to light for us.

Best Regards and Happy New Year,

Dr Caymus

I'm not annoyed, Skip, that's a little too strong. More accurately, I am sad to see a couple of rare skills that date back to the game's origin go, regardless of whether or not they were ever made functional. But, as I said in my post, I am supportive of any fair, consistent and impartial change that is made for the betterment of the game going forward, and I am optimistic that CCP will make players affected by the removal of the skills whole.

Edit: As an aside on "making players whole", I have heard from one player that he has been reimbursed for skillpoints lost as a result of the removal of one of the skllls. My own request for remibursement remains pending at this time.

I would hope that a DEV weighs in on this issue some time soon; There is a rather easy solution to this problem that is equitable to the affected players. Note: the affected players have all been here for at least 5 years - it's the sort of loyalty that should not be punished, per se.

It would seem we are in a vacuum with regard to information on this issue. But who knows, Crucible 1.1 is hours away.

I had the Genetic Engineering skill. Never noticed it was gone really, until after 1.1 i suddenly had 1.024.000 sp unallocated. So they fixed the issue it seems.

I dont mind the skill is gone really. Now some of the other rare skills might be a bit more tricky, if they want to remove those as the have actually been in the game as books. That means that they would represent an ISK loss as well as a sp loss if removed. No real fair way to fix that...
