I remember a thread about a guy that was extrapolating the 3D models and then printing them on his high-end 3D printer.

Sure beats the old fashion way of building models Shocked

Been around since the beginning.

Yeah, but a matchstick Nyx is going to be about 10x as strange and impressive. Smile

It would be nice to see a tread dedicated to "Making Model Ships".....how to's, procedures....form Extracting the ship files...to making the plans...sizing....selecting building techniques and material....and seeing Pictures of progress.

A Nyx is a nice proyect to build a 24" model....you can put it on a wall or in a table....with some led lights. A proyect like this can take many hrs but EVE Gamers tend to know the payoffs of time investing :D

You could use triexporter to get the 3d model and put it in some 3d program to get the other measurements, ...

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Just found this thread. Was helpful for getting triexporter up and running again.

This is also looking helpful.

No idea how to use blender. I tried that eve university article I linked and tried to render the nyx but I don't think it worked so I quit without saving it.

Here are the files I was working with. Not sure I even did the .png files correctly. The instructions for gimp were kind of hard to follow. The article isn't really written vary well In my opinion.

.zip includes the .dds files so the pngs can be recreated if they aren't right.

Maybe someone else can have better luck.

My older Sister works at this place called Herf Jones. They do year books for high schools and other stuff.

She was able to score me some of these Brillia LP-NV plates a few years ago (~10 of them used of course). They are aluminum and measure ~ 800mm x 1029mm x .5mm. Big smile Can you imagine the potential.

It is a shame that the stuff is really hard to work with. Otherwise 90cm long Navy Comet. http://eve-files.com/dl/273700
That 123d make program has an option for unfolding kind of like pepakura. Under 'Construction Technique' it is called 'folded panels'.
