My drones keep disappearing

I am a new player and I was wondering if it was normal for drones to disappear from the drone bay when you log off? Am I doing something wrong?

I have bought several drones for my venture and it seems that whenever I log out and then come back on in the next day or two the drones that I left in the drone bay are gone. I know that drones are relatively cheap compared to the amount of ore I can bring back but it can get annoying to constantly have to buy new ones.

Do you by any chance logout in space?

If so do you make sure to "pull" your drones?
(Right click and return to drone bay)

If you don't, those drones simply disconnect and are abandoned.
On most occasions if you D/C drones will be auto-returned and will be in your bay next login.
