Wormhole hunting: How to progress?

Within a day I'll finally be able to fly a Manticore which I plan to use for hunting in wspace \o/
Next, I plan to max out my torpedo skills but I am wondering in which direction I should move afterwards? What would you recommend in order to hunt bigger fish solo?

If you're talking about direction for your next ship type and skills then T3s if you're going hunting in w-space.

Here's some solo bomber inspiration too.

Skill for a proteus. #1 cloaky gank/scan combo ship.

A little useless to max missile skills unless you're mondo new. If you mean max max, you could have a decently trained proteus in the time it'll take

If thuggin' was a category I'd win a Grammy

I would say to first move into an Astero as it has a bigger engagement envelope than the bomber and then train into a proper fighting frigate, destroyer or cruiser. At some point in the future you will likely find cloaky ganks less thrilling and unreliable (too many hours between targets.) When that happens you might try roaming null or low.

I have a character with ~60 million skill points that's dedicated to flying bombers/covops. Just started to think about branching out to something else like a widow...

Does that mean that you trained all races? Any specific reason for that besides being more versatile in general?

So...like real hunting? :-D

I get what you mean. To be honest I stayed away from the Astero because I didn't train any drones skills. However having more protection than a wall of paper might be good considering that I am a noob. Will look into it.

Trained Amarr for Purifier (best bomber imo). Trained Minmater for Hound (for explosive damage). Trained Gal for Helios (best scanning frig imo) And Trained Caldari to finish the set (and arguably looks the best/featured in every ccp video)

Lots of lvl 5 support skills. Missiles/Scanning/Engineering/Navigation account for roughly half that characters skill points

If you're hunting in wh space, plan on doing a LOT of scanning. The flat bonus to scanning on the astero, combined with it's awesome combat potential & covops cloak makes it ideal. I don't have one to hand but there are quite a few good fits out there; guess this depends on your skills though.

Look into a stratios as well mate, they can be fun for solo/cloaky hunting, or so i've heard.

I do love my cloaky proteus though (and it has the best name ever btw)

I don't need twitter. I'm already following you.

Stratios or cloaky t3, is ideal really.
You want a ship which can do good damage, has a strong tank, can scan and use covert ops cloak.
Without covert ops cloak and scanning, you will catch nothing, and without damage and good tank, you will survive nothing :)

So either Stratios, Proteus, Legion or Loki. Dont even think about Tengu for solo WH pvp.

A life is best lived, to not step into your grave in a well preserved body. Instead, to slide in side ways, all battered and bruised, screamming, "Holy SH**! What a ride!"

I always found cloaky Tengus to be fine if fitted well.

Flown them solo or dual boxed for years and they've performed well in small fights or ganking lower class site runners.

Certainly not as good as a Proteus or Stratios, but easily on-par with a cloaky Loki in terms of EHP and DPS, with the added bonus of variable damage types and no tracking issues. As for Legion, wow people actually fly cloaky gank Legions? Shocked

How did you kill it? He was afk?

And when you kill your target - sleepers attack you don't they? You are warping out very fast i guess? Do you have any chance to loot the wreck?

You're kidding right?

DPS is lower than Proteus, but you can mitigate damage by kitting at the edge of 10km with a little bit of manual piloting.

Cloaky solo active tank Tengu. Watch out for neuts on this fit:

Low Slots:
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

Mid Slots:
Corelum C-Type 10MN Afterburner
Domination Shield Boost Amplifier
Federation Navy Stasis Webifier
Gist C-Type EM Ward Field
Gist X-Type Large Shield Booster
Gistum C-Type Adaptive Invulnerability Field
True Sansha Warp Scrambler

High Slots:
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher

Rigs:
Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell II
Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell II

Subsystems:
Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node
Tengu Electronics - Emergent Locus Analyzer
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive - Covert Reconfiguration
Tengu Propulsion - Gravitational Capacitor

The other alternative is the buffer Tengu. Don't have to worry about neuts persay unless you're dry. This has been majorly nerfed now that the 10% to shield HP has been reduced to 5% but it is pretty damn good still. Here, again, you can dictate range and mitigate damage. The idea here is to burn your taget down before your 25000 (ish) shields drop. Has no problem taking on Domi's or Ishtars running sites:

Low Slots:
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

Mid Slots:
Corelum C-Type 10MN Afterburner
True Sansha Warp Scrambler
Federation Navy Stasis Webifier
Pithum C-Type Adaptive Invulnerability Field
Pith C-Type EM Ward Field
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

High Slots:
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher, Core Scanner Probe I

Rigs:
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II

Subsystems:
Tengu Defensive - Supplemental Screening
Tengu Electronics - Emergent Locus Analyzer
Tengu Offensive - Covert Reconfiguration
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir

Both fits are over a billion ISK, but if you know how to fly them, that shouldn't be an issue. Have a play around with both fits and figure out how to make it your own (for example you might want a little more tank so drop a low for a Damage Control) but both fits I use. I prefer the second, used it since the nerf and still useful, but I might have a play around with the fit a little see if I can squeeze more out of it.

EDIT: To clarify, the fit does not have to be this expensive, you can run with a T2 version. I just have an amount of ISK and don't particularly care if the ships lost or not. They pay for themselves anyway so long as you don't try and solo something like three or four Domis at once.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

They aren't Shelby's kills, that's polletjepikhaar's.

Only talked to him once, but I always link his KB when people ask about doing solo bomber stuff. Pretty much all he's done for years is dive highsec holes solo and gank stuff. He's got some amazing kills in his bombers. I wouldn't have the patience for that lol A lot of wormholers prolly recognize him. I used to run into him maybe once every couple months when I was in a C2 with HS static, tried 1v1 him in bombers a couple times and died horribly to him. Lol

Except that one time I brought the Falcon too.

If you can afford too and don't really care about losing stuff in a game, no reason not too...
As you say, don't have to bling stuff out. But DED space fits are fine if you have the ISK to replace. So long as my ships kill more than they're worth, they're fine by me.
