The Volume also doesn't accurately measure up to the models if I remember correctly also.

So why do the T3 cruisers not change size with different mods?

Why do the models suggest getting a mammoth into an orca would be nothing short of ludicrous? Or a myrm, for that matter?

Things don't always make sense in our space TARDIS(es)

Whilst asking for them all to be the same might be a bit much, I'd be willing to guess that at BEST this metric is now out of balance with current ships as it has never (to my memory) been altered at the same time as the ships themselves. So any balance it may have provided is now an after thought at best.

should we also standardize build cost so caldari ships don't take more minerals than the other factions of its class?

Caracal 92000 m3
Navy caracal 101000 m3

Is there some kind of huge invisible space spoiler bolted on?

Omen : 118000 m3
Navy Omen : 101000

Guess some stuff was removed on that one...

Can you rationalise why, balance wise, these differences exist. Would you be OK if the Caldari ships would take FAR more space than, say, Amarr ones?

Excellence is an attitude.

In csse of caracals - due to improvements made with shields armor and hull hp the overall m3 was increased including exyra utility slot.,

In case of omes - amarrians used new technologies like composite materials including carbon kevlar high forged steel which in the end decreaded an overal m3.
