Suspect Baiting?

Hello, recently I was missioning in hi-sec when out of nowhere a frigate appeared and started looting my kills. The pilot was promptly rewarded with the *suspect* status. From what I understand, I would be within my rights to fire upon this individual.

But I withheld any hostile action thinking there was probably more to this than met the eye.

If I'm not mistaken, this is called suspect baiting? And although I could fire upon the pilot, his allies could immediately descend on me? How exactly does this work? If he fired upon me first, would he be alone in the battle?

I'm not complaining, just looking for an explanation of the mechanics. Thank you!

Was doing missions on an ALT for standings in high sec when such a fellow warped in, and did likewise. I was in the Mission with 2 BS so I microjumpdrived the one that had the aggro 100 k out and all the mercenarry rats aggressed him instantly and he died horribly in a fire.

I loled hard.

If he is yellow or red, you can shoot them. You can pod him aswell. But do not be stupid, shooting MTU or can stealing is the new can flipping joke in high sec.

You should never engage a PVP ship in a ship that is not set up for PVP.

That being said, the first time I did it, I lost my ship but it was the most fun I had in the game up to that point.

The best way to learn is to make mistakes, keep in mind these are only space pixels and shoot him!

One can not mock a kill board if they do not have one of their own.

I am an independent third party commenting on your comment. You are talking trash and you have no kill board to display you have any reason to be talking said trash. Therefore your comments are invalid. As originally stated, calm down miner.

And why he started this off-topic discussion ? His 'pvp' are not very impressive. You are fine, but he is a noob.

If you read your original comment that he replied to, it is off topic not to mention wrong.

Again, calling someone a noob that actually has a killboard while you have no killboard to reference means you are the noob or hiding behind an alt. Either scenario invalidates your comments.

My edit of on topic. because it is stupid to ask on crime & punishment. 50% of all posts will be trash. He should join 'Help' channel.

If you really think the help channel is any better than this forum you truly are a noob.

It's not where you post, it's how you post it. OP asked an honest question with out whining. He will get good answers.

As said before he wants to bait you into a fight. A properly fitted frig is capable of tanking and killing a mission fit battleship, even more if accompanied by an offgrid booster alt. Also he may pretend to bail after your first shot (you have no point to hold him) and come back in a better ship to finish the fight as you both have a limited engagement timer for 5 minutes.

I'm my own NPC alt.

To add in, another tactic would be to bring in an Orca or Bowhead and drop off a larger ship with an alt.

Thanks for the answers! Especially the notion of not engaging a PVP fit ship with one that's fit for PVE.

(I did want to light the suspect up though!Twisted)

You might be right, but I was also looking for an 'icebreaker' to get myself involved with the Eve forums.
