let defender missiles be anti-bomb weapons

I've been playing since 2007 and Defender missiles have always been a joke.
Battleships are great ships but rarely flown in PVP and most people cite bombs as the reason.
Idea is simple: turn (Heavy) Defender missiles into anti-bomb weapons for battleships. Tweak until perfect.

Would be easier just to delete bombs, and you'd probably have the same effect.

Bombs are awesome, don't even go there.

It needs to be balanced. I would expect more than one missile would be needed per bomb, or at least you'd have to cover the right damage types. Missile launchers would mean sacrificing DPS or bringing one or more specialized ships along on the fleet, which is a trade-off. This change should not make bombs obsolete.

A lot of ships have utility highs. And it wouldn't exactly be difficult to bring a handful of support typhoons or something along on your fleet to make it immune to bombs.

That's exactly right! Every strategy needs a counter-strategy. You can choose more DPS and tank, or less DPS and more range, or you can choose spider-tanking, or you can choose anti-support modules like neuts, or you can choose anti-bomber defenses. Whatever you choose, there's a counter to it. And fortune should indeed favor the prepared.

Also, consider this: defenders presumably work like FoFs... they pick the target, not you. So if there are a lot of bombs, the defenders could very well split their damage and not kill any bombs. The counter to anti-bomb battleship modules would then be to bring more bombs. Or to be smart about knowing when the battleships are forced to reload.

I have been bombed once.... In a C3 running maelstrom and completely avoided the damage I'm not sure why people have massive issues with them.

Honestly the only thing I think they need to lose is stealth, they bring more firepower to bear than most things Im not sure why they also need immunity from pretty much everything till the fire.

that and making bombs and missiles lockable would make for so really cool battlestar action.

I have never in my time heard that explanation before, all I hear is that they are slow as hell and tackled incredibly easy.

You used to be able to click on a cruise missile and make the camera follow it. It was just like the Gulf War (and almost that long ago).

I also think that should be brought back.

Remember that I am not only proposing a new thing for battleships, but also a new thing for Defender missiles, which have been in the game for a decade without any purpose.

Should be a space baseball bat that resets the timer and bats the bomb back in the direction it came. Possibly using the Wiimote.

I like your thinking. Also all bombs should be replaced by Kaiten.
