Observations of Potential Origins

The Apollo Tyrannos name seems rather fitting, considering the multiple sun themes that are associated with the Sleepers. From the presence of Talocan and Sleeper enclaves at the epicenter to the Oruze Constructs and their sun inspired architecture. They often give me the impression of archaic sun dials, at least in style, but more likely function as a form of solar energy storage. Too, I've noticed that some of the combat sites which are often further from the sun show states of disrepair and or are seemingly de-powered.

I'm going to throw out a pretty wild idea that takes this a step further - the Virtual Reality simulations which the Sleepers dwell in would require massive computational power. This is a civilization who quite literally took their entire physical civilization and moved it into a digitized existence. Such a civilization, I would imagine, would want their new world, universe(s), to be as 'realistic' (given that they would be able to impose any sort of physical laws of governance upon them) as possible. Where would they find the energy and the material to do so?

So we arrive in the Shattered systems and are given a glimpse into what may be our answer.

I believe the epicenters found within are something of an event horizon, stabilized with Talocan technology to serve as a computational powerhouse where their civilizations can be stored, within the bodies of the blue giant suns. I'd like to point to - Computronium: literally programmable matter. I believe they are working towards turning the blue suns themselves into something similar - stellar-sized computers with an event horizon at its heart.

The denser the substrate to be worked with, the more processing power they'll be set to create. Neutronium fits the bill, which is an extremely dense state of matter theorized to be present within the center of neutron stars. Neutron stars are stars which have suffered gravitational collapse and or have gone supernova - much like we see in the Shattered systems.

Apollo Tyrannos -- what Myth can tell us of events

You'll have to excuse any mistakes that I may make here, as I'm still an Eve-newbro and not as completely up to date on the lore that's moving this story, and the game, forward.

This will serve as a brief analysis of the naming conventions which the 'Sleepers' have chosen to represent themselves to the rest of New Eden. I'll be focusing on Apollo Tyrannos and how the name Apollo, beyond being a mere god of Light. is also considered one of the Delphi: an Oracle God who dealt in prophecy.

Currently New Eden is, for all intents and purposes, watching The Prophecy of Macaper unfold. To quote Wikipedia: "Medicine and healing are associated with Apollo, whether through the god himself or mediated through his son Asclepius, yet Apollo was also seen as a god who could bring ill-health and deadly plague. Amongst the god's custodial charges, Apollo became associated with dominion over colonists, and as the patron defender of herds and flocks.".

Interesting, I think, that Apollo is observed with having dominion over colonists when the Empyreans seem on the brink of soon establishing their own Stargates and, like the Sleepers themselves, will fling themselves from beyond the Star Cluster to find new homes, glory and treasure for themselves. It's clear that a secret to wormhole technology itself involves harnessing Isogen-5. I believe that we'll soon discover that Isogen-5 can only be harvested from the depths of the blue class stars which are nearing their natural end of life or have already collapsed.

Will it be the Sleepers who guide us from New Eden? Will they give us new gate technology? Were the Jovians manipulating the people of New Eden in a desperate attempt to cure their own wasting disease? Was it the Sleepers who, finally having had enough interference from their brother-civilization and the Empires, as spurned on by Caroline's Star put the Joves down and set Sansha's Nation fleeing?

IGS is in character, and he's talking about links to real world mythology that is lost knowledge for our characters in New Eden.

I don't think the Mythology is entirely lost. That's one of the great things about mythos, they live on in stories. The original meanings may have been lost but many of the associations are still relevant, especially in ship naming conventions (looking at Gallente), symbols (the Gallente, again).

Still, it's a good point to make and who knows how they might be interpreting it. The Sleepers are one of the oldest civilizations in New Eden and, potentially, the civilization with the most preserved historical detail of the events during the time of the EVE Gate destruction and may even carry a significant heritage knowledge of Terra thanks to their civilization existing in a virtual state.

Yeah this is pretty OOC, I'd think. Our characters have no real world knowledge of the Sleepers living in a virtual reality universe and the mythos interpretation falls more in the realm of its utilization as a literary element.

EDIT: But I'm a newbro at Eve and the forums, there's no scanning to help me where I need to go. I'm bad at exploring the Internet, apparently.

First, welcome to EvE! Second, don't be to hard on yourself. Our forum is a bewildering place one can easily get lost in....Blink

That said, this thread has been moved to EVE Fiction.
