I feel your pain dude. I've talked on these forums about a few people I've tried to help in the game, with hilarious results.

The thing to remember is that these are people and they bring into the game a lot of their personal baggage. If a guy is a know it all in real life who continually screws everything up because he doesn't think he needs to learn anything, he'll do that in game too. If he is forgetful or reckless or thoughtless or stubborn, that will shine through too.

The most memorable guy was the guy who came into the game via an invite from a friend of mine so I invited him to my personal channel. This guy was pure gold, he had so many pre-concieved notions about how things should go, and if you explained things to him , he argued with you despite the fact that he had evidence that what he thought was wrong (in the form of lots of lossmails lol). He went on and on about how "EVE should give me XP for playing, this time skills thing sucks" lol.

Now, we are all noobs once, but there are GOOD noobs and BAD noobs. Good noobs train up a Cruiser that has a hybrid bonus, put lasers and artillery + 2 types of missile launchers and shield and armor reppers on it and leave every other slot empty, and we get blown up, and we talk to someone and they show us how to fit, why we don't mix guns or tank types, why we need to fill our slots, etc.

BAD noobs explain to you why their fit is perfect, how they "use the artillery on the npcs at long range, then swtich to lasers at short range. This missiles are there to finish them off only" and why having empty slots means better protection because weapons fire goes through the empty spaces... I'm not kidding about that last part btw.

Talking to the guy was like pulling teeth, and the age old "let his dumb ass learn by blowing up since he won't listen" didn't work either, he'd die over and over and over and still keep being stupid lol. I suspect Dunning and Kruger was right about this type of guy.

The truth here is that some people are so irredeemably stupid or arrogant or ignorant that nothing you do to help them will ever penetrate. Not all noobs are like this, some are smart and teachable and still decide they don't like the game and that's ok. But the dumb ones make you want to pull you hair out lol.

This.

Although, I would place myself in the in-between group of the Really Stupidly Slow to Learn Noob.

I mixed guns, couldn't understand why certain ammo didn't go with certain weapon or even that ammo ain't gonna go from a) the wrong weapon type and b) the wrong size weapon. Couldn't understand the difference between armor and shield tanking (surely a ship must have both???). I didn't understand how to fit or how to deal with different damage types, but I don't think I ever just randomly buggered off to go do something afk.

This type is more likely to stick around, but it takes a hell of a lot longer for us to learn. But at least we want to! (Still learning, still consider myself a total noob).

There is nothing wrong with being that way.

What is wrong is being that way and thinking that the people trying to help you (who have been in the game for years) are somehow stupid when they tell you things Big smile

You want to know THE most frustrating thing? Deep down, they all know it. At the end of my time with the guy I describe, he said "man, you have a lot of patience and i appreciate that, I tend to be an a-hole and I know it. I sure as hell wouldn't put up with me"...

I damn near jumped out of my chair when I read that in my chat channel. I wanted to put my hand through my monitor and drag him though it so I could choke his ass after he said that. Because he knew all along how he was lol.

You don't, if you plan to enjoy the game yourself.

I might have missed some nuances of this but WTF are you even interacting with such tool? Do you have some RL relations you cannot sacrifice or sth? I mean seriously, you are wasting your subscription fee and time and probably healthy chunk of your brain cells here. So why not just tell him to frakk off? I know Eve should be as much painful and inconvenient as we can only make it for ourselves but c'mon...

@ Jenn aSide

I completely know the sort you mean. The BAD noobs. Refuse to listen and just bulldoze their way into EVE, but no - they still know better. At least some of us understand that we are complete noobs. Accept and move on.

I have met bad noobs too many times.

In the EVE best and worst confessions thread, I was gonna comment "yeah I used to randomly gift between 5 mil and 500 mil to noobs. I once just gave a hulk to someone because he liked mining. But I don't think that's helping them *get* EVE. Some people don't get it, won't get it...in fact refuse to get it.

I'm all in favour of a NPE that inducts greater numbers of noobs, but they aren't gonna hack it with the attitude that the OP described. I feel bad for him that he spent so much time trying to help this guy who just has this CBA attitude.

Ill go back to read what are bound to be fantastic comments. My first thought was.

This guy was in the military??? what a worry, did he only carry the bullets in his gun and no reloads? (assuming he was in that kind of role of course)

my second thought was use the block option on him and forget he was ever there, some people you just cannot help.

Well you said you were in the military. I'm army, some people yelling at works, sometimes a good smoking will help. Other times you have to make the ass hat use 550 Cord to dummy cord all his **** to his person. Then there's people you put on to watch the cameras and report in when one goes down.

Best thing you can do is either leave, kick him out. You can do other things but those are the two fair ones. You can't help the ones that don't want helping.

I had this dog that squatted down to pee instead of lift his leg to hit the tree. It was damned embarrassing. So, I decided I'd have to show him how it's done. So, I go up to the tree, lift my leg but he starts licking me in the face! He wasn't even watching! Boy, was that annoying! But, I persisted and persisted. Pretty soon, I had an audience of stray cats and a couple of squirrels watching very carefully, but this dog was just rolling around in the yard with his tongue flailing out, then coming up to me and licking me in the face!

All the other animals were speaking animalese to him, telling him, "Hey! You better watch your master or you'll never learn how to do this!" But, it did no good. Many months later I ran into the owner of the local pet store. He said, "Did you know in your neighborhood there's a bunch of cats that pee on trees like dogs??"

"NO!" I replied very surprised. "I did not know that!"

"YES!" He retorted. "A bunch of cats and two squirrels!"

It just goes to show you. You can lead some of the squirrels some of the time, and some of the cats some of the time, but if you have a dog that won't lift his leg, tell the neighbors he's somebody elses and you're just dog sitting for them!

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

Wait a minute??? Cheating in world of tanks?? I left the game quite some time ago after wasting my time on 11 thousand battles.

My reasons for leaving were hitskins, I mean it was infuriating. Always losing something important, and it isn't as simple as shooting someones gun. If you waste your time with that he will take no damage and you will die, as it's a specific point on the barrel that damages it, and it's different with each tank. I then decided to drive a fast light tank that is thrown into high tiers that only survives one or two shots, but wadya know?? Now I was losing my driver every first hit.

Then there was premium ammo, it was bought and specifically used on a tank I liked to drive but I was okay with that because it made me feel good, it was a death machine if you decided to attack it head on instead of thinking.. NOW premium ammo is available for normal in game money, and they didn't figure that it would be a very bad idea to leave it as powerful as it was without costing money.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/352x306q90/196/wq8y.jpg Result of gold ammunition available for credits. I am driving the slowest most armored tank in the game and yet i'm dead in seconds from a distance and from the front, then rant trolled after my frustration, at least a team mate had his "lol no" opinion when I ask if that tank even needs heat rounds.

Now if that wasn't bad enough I'm going to ask about that cheating again. Is there truely cheating in the game now? As in worse than hitskins? Or are hitskins the cheating you speak of, because they made using them against the rules.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?
