Hi OOPE residents,

I resubbed to eve but can't get myself to actually play … so I'm playing this Indie early access / crowd funded FPS thing called Interstellar Marines.

So I was wondering who else plays (preferably over steam) so I can hopefully play with and against fellow pod-pilots. Hit me with eve-mails if you'd like to have me as your steam friend. EU-TZ preferred Big smile

Post below if you want to discuss the parts of the game that are released so far.

First thought on hearing "Intersellar Marines" is the old pencil and paper RPG Traveler. Is it anything like that? (That game was too smart for its time. Or too smart for my AD&D crowd. Or maybe it was because the streamlined rule books didn't have any pictures....)

I never ever played a P&P RPG, but the setting sounds incredibly interesting. In the wiki it says that it's inspired by the works of Isaac Asimov and Dune. I'm in the middle of Isaac Asimov's "Prelude to Foundation" and I read already the robot series and the Foundation trilogy.

Interstellar Marines is marketed as "inspired by Half-Life, System Shock and Rainbow Six" and the developer also says "IM resurrects the old school tactical FPS".

The game is under development, so it's impossible to tell what the finished product will be like. A year ago, you couldn't crouch, jump or sprint and there was only one weapon available. But updates keep coming and what is playable is good and fun. There are coop missions for a max of 4 players, there is multiplayer with several game modes.

What I like and I hope it will not be changed:
- you only get your teammates' position.
- you have no crosshair. You can turn on a laser, but that makes you visible to every player.
- sound is important. Like in Counterstrike you can sneak up on people.
- when the simulated environment turns to night mode it gets pitch black … and all you have is a flashlight.

Currently the devs are working on the next updates 18 and 19 for Hell Week. They are adding ammo and health pick-up and the ability to transition from one map to another. To test if this all works correctly they organise HELL WEEK, where teams of players are put into an environment and have to survive against other teams which sounds similar to DAY-Z.
