I don't even AFK ingame all day, if I'm not doing something I log out. Over a year online is ********. (this doesn't include time on the forums, which makes it even worse) I came here escaping the time demands of WOW in 2004, and it's just as bad!

It was a sign from God that today the adjoining C2 had a Hisec exit which lead to my old home system. I took the opportunity to clean out most of the station and moved it to Jita for sale. 230 sell orders later..

Once the last of the caps is finished in the WH I'm going to sell the WH corp lock stock and barrel, PLEX my accounts for a year and go get a life.

fuckininternet...

And I'm guessing that if you quit WoW in '04, you've been around longer than me, which = I have less of a life than you.

Usually when looking at multiple scenarios, it's useful to look for a common denominator. In this case, I'm looking at you.

I'm willing to bet that you, like me, will always be hooked to some game. Whether WoW, EvE, or Hello Kitty Super Adventure Island, you'll be sitting behind your computer playing something.

It's not EvE's fault that you're a gamer, it's yours.

Just imagine if you spent 399 days in the gym or doing sport. You'd be super-fit and banging chicks every weekend (or guys).

Instead you chose EVE.

Good luck OP. Smile

No matter where you go, there you are.

What will you do with your "life"?

Hang out at a pub? Watch TV?

The problem is not this game, or that game. It's you!

And I am not trying to troll here. You can leave the game, and then you will waste your time on something else.

Not that you could call it a total waste, if you were actually entertained. I played WOW for roughly 30 months, mostly PVP in the last year, and I gotta say the laughs were well worth the time. Nothing like the battleground PVP for an hour a day after a long day of work.
I must have a lot of time with COD2 - I giggle like Lorena Bobbitt in a sausage factory whenever I smack someone's head off with a rifle butt. That time is worth the laugh, and for the same reason. After a long day covering everything from my job and the latest horrors of life, it's well worth the time.

If you hang out at a pub on your spare time, you could be like Norm from that old sitcom called "Cheers" - would you say spending time with your friends was a waste?

Now I can see that you might think you needed to be more productive perhaps - lots of time in EvE and who are you when the servers shut down? We see a lot of people treating internet spaceships like it's very serious business. I had a scout alt once get blobbed by T2 ships using ammo that cost more than the alts frigate, and wondering if those other players are sitting there thinking "man, we're so good at this" - but like a kid I used to play COD2 with, who was always so proud when he would shout "I'm dominating!!" I would ask "what are you doing if I pull the plug right now?".

In fact that same kid was really big on Guitar Hero. I sneered (yes, sneered) at his GH prowess and said "OK, let's see you do that with the real thing" so he got the real thing and is now in a band and in his late teens living it up as a musician getting all the hot chicks and such other trappings of that lifestyle.

So, if you are looking back, and seeing that, after your EvE accomplishments, nothing more than a neckbeard or stay-at-home son in the mirror, with tools in the garage with layers of dust on them, and no memory of what a naked woman looks like, then perhaps you are correct in your actions, but don't blame the game, this or any one, for I would bet a case of Russian short (that's ammo, by the way) that you will find something else to waste your time on.

(like I am wasting it right now as I type this... )

You need to appreciate one thing though, I have lived in situations where there was absolutely NO time to waste, no time to play, and if I wanted to have a beer I had to chug it.

If you have not neglected your life to play this game, then congratulations, you are an efficient person who managed to accomplish your goals AND do it in such a manner that you had time to play. I would like to learn about your habits in lieu of asking for your stuff.

Bring back DEEEEP Space!

You know I play 1-3 Times a week with anywhere from a half hour to 4-5 Hours logged in. I do Exploration, PvP, Missions or just browse Markets. When I lived in Null, or Low I never felt obligated to log in. I chose which OP's to attend, plan roams in advance and generally schedule my Spaceship fun around my time.

I don't worry about Alts, I am fine with just Alara. I don't worry about training, buying or running Capital Ships and POS's or farming Plex because I pay my humble $15. I don't mind oscillating between 500mil and 50 mil depending on what I buy or destroy or growing a fund to purchase a pimp ship over a few months. I keep EVE simple.

The problem is not the game it is you. You choose to try to do everything in EVE, take it slow and pass the buck along from time to time. You can play this game as casually as you want to. If you obsess over it, it will swallow you. Don't do that.

It's an addiction... You can never get it out of your veins, it calls to you always. Like the sailors of old, being lured to their deaths on the rocks by the siren song of the Mermaids. There is no escape. Only a brief respite before you are pulled back into her loving embrace and find yourself adrift in a sea of stars again.

Resistance is futile.

I just realised that you spent one in every seven hours of your life playing EVE. That's about 3.5 hours PER DAY for the last seven years. Respect, OP.

ha! The reason I stay subscribed is because I have no idea what I'd do with my time if I unsubbed. I mean, it's either this, TV, or other video games. What do "normal" people do?

This and reality TV. Though lately the answer seems to be "Get a 2nd job" or "sell plasma to pay the rent."

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

Some mighty fine posts there, Herzog and Kilrayn.

I'm about to start my second year of engineering at the ripe old age of 37. I've got more free time now than I've ever had, but I'm doing nothing with it, I think that's what bothers me. I can convince myself that it's just while recovering from surgery (motorbike accident) but that's only now..what about the other years? I conveniently forget about those. I'll be 40 before I know it on the outside and yet still 23 in the head.

I've always had an addictive streak, sex and cars in the 90's. Bikes, alcohol and drugs in the '00s, I've gotten rid of them all with the exception of smoking and being online. I haven't had a drink in 7 years, a hooker or any pills in 10, and I haven't been caught going 3 times the speed limit since 06. If these pills (champix) work I'll not be smoking by christmas after 22 years, and if I can just log the **** off, that will be the end of them all. Finally free, no longer a slave to bullshit.

And yes, yes you can have my stuff. Go over to Jita and buy some random junk, some of it is probably mine.

Alara, no no no, I'm a powergamer, and by by the grace of Satan himself I will powergame EVE come hell or high water. It's just really hard with this time based skill progression.

It's 4am here, I should be sleeping...or sending some drunk hottie home in a taxi.

I've been trying to quit smoking for a couple of years, and have heard good and bad things about Chantix.

Good: It will make cigarettes tastes like garbage, and smoking them will be a complete hassle. You won't get a "buzz" off them, and you won't really crave them as much.

Bad: You might have really strange, disturbing dreams. You might sleep walk or have fugue episodes. It could cause liver damage. You might go completely bonkers forever.

I'm torn, because smoking is more damaging to my life than EVE ever could be. I don't power game, and have no interest in ever becoming that person again (I used to marathon game 18/7 on DAoC...that was stupid).

Hmm. Not quite as bad as the OP.
Then again, I barely logged in more than 15-20 minutes every few days in the past 2+ years, and not that much in the year before that, so I suppose the first three years were pretty close to what the OP has been doing on average.
