Probably a fight that feels at least somewhat 'fair'. A fight where the win could go either way.

Thing is, like the Goons so expertly pointed out, 'fair' fights don't win wars. Gaining sov is hard work. Keeping it is even harder work. Can't blame them for using 'cheap' tactics to win the important fights. No point in making things harder on yourself than they need to be at the end of the day.

Pretty much, can't fault them for using the mechanics available to them to succeed. This is what the current incarnation and past decade or so of the evolution of EVE brought about. It's not like this is specific to the one group. Plenty of booster and falcon alts around, and plenty of one sided dunk or no fight at all groups around.

The only real game reward for a "gud fite" is the experience itself, I like them because I feel that win or lose everybody has a good time and pilots and FC's improve after a closely contested battle; but EVE as a game doesn't really reward this in the game itself. Everything goes to the winner so the emphasis is doing whatever it takes to win be it overwhelming force, falcon alts, hotdrops, whatever. That is the "correct" answer. You can subscribe to whatever code you want, I personally have more fun taking more even fights, but I would never say that's actually smart.

At the end of the day it is a videogame I play for enjoyment, so i do the things that I enjoy playing it. And I don't hate losing so much, or have so much on the line with a loss, that I won't pass up a possible good time to sit docked for hours when I could be doing just about ANYTHING else in EVE or outside of it with my time.

But I'm admittedly a filthy casual.

I just read that whole pastebin, the answer you seek is in there:

"(9:04:10 PM) rayonar: You can throw whatever argument you want on the table. If you haven't been in this situation, you don't know. This is a region at risk, not a money moon. You don't undock to fight for ***** and giggles, you undock to win timers, win systems, and to demoralize. You don't undock "just cuz"."

The CFC is currently engaged in Dominion Sovereignty Warfare. Sov warfare isn't "nice". It isn't "gudfites". It's largely about weaponizing your enemies boredom.

ISK wars and killmails count for nothing in this kind of battle. Winning timers and flipping systems is the goal. If undocking and taking a fight doesn't advance either of those strategic objectives, then undocking is dumb.

FYI: From what I've heard from various sources in both camps, BL, NC. and The Kadeshi have also done their fair share of blueballing this campaign.

Truth.

When I was in Tribe, PL showed up in HIX with a 150-man Tengu fleet and demanded a fight. I told them to toss off, no way were we gonna undock a bunch of T1 BCs or cruisers into that, and we would fight at a time and place of our own choosing, not when they just show up and demand content. They sputtered and cried about how they were gonna come burn down our space pixels.

They never came back.

In Eve Online, boredom should be classified as a weapon of mass destruction.

We revel in using cheap and underhanded tactics. Our enemies insist on playing this as space joust online, when it's actually more like Civ 5 and Ghandi has nukes.

Because the entire point of Goons is to troll, and that's some peoples' thing.

Not really that complicated, just treat them the same way you do the one random guy that types in all caps about Obama being born in Kenya in forums about baking cupcakes or whatever: ignore them, don't engage, and move on with your life.

You've got to give them credit for at least the self-awareness to join a game where that's as legitimate a player motivation as any, at least; in a cooperative MMO they'd be ruining everybody's day but in Eve they don't necessarily stand out and you have the option of ignoring them/shooting them.

If we didn't have Goons, things would be a little less interesting in New Eden. Lots of people jump on the wagon to hate them but at most have only been blobbed a few times by their fleets. They fail to realize that they serve up content in areas that would only be filled by the next in line if they were to leave. I'm sure those hit by recruiting scams and classic goonery have good reasons, but for the majority it's just another factor of eve that they fail to appreciate for what it is. Flame away but it's my opinion. Grrr Goons.

This is right, mostly.

IMO, they bring the action. They are the corp everyone loves to hate and fight with. Their mere existence makes a huge part of null-sec an interesting place to be. The hate of them is mystifying to me. If you've been blobbed by them, then fine... be mad. If not, then you're just being a big, weepy vagina. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I'm struggling to understand why anybody would want to join GOONS. Outnumbering an enemy by 2-1, knowing they could crush their foes yet blueballing their opponents just to deny the enemy any kind of fight. They openly admit their only tactic is superblob or blueball, no in between. They claim holding SOV is all that matters. How can anybody in CFC actually enjoy this kind of crap? Is the whole motivation of the CFC line member just filling his wallet with ISK?

I always thought Gevlon Goblin's hatred of Goons was rather sad but after reading this bull I'm now in agreement with him. GOON leadership mentality is all about marshalling f1 scrubs to help keep their ISK empire in place and they have no interest in providing their line members with meaningful content.

So again, why would anybody volunteer to become a GOONBOT?

Your painting everyone in Goons with the same brush, i fought with them and against them and alot of them want fights, some like small gang warfare, as for blue balling all the alliances have done that.

This isn't indicative of goons being a joke. This is indicative of all SOV warfare in the old system being a joke.

Boredoms been weaponised since SOV warfare went super serious, which was approximately the moment someone flew into null sec and planted a flag (side note, who did actually take the very first SOV ever?).

Goons strategy being optimal is conditional on the fact that if they didn't undock sans super blob they would be obliterated.

If one entity was crushing another in all the fights, they would always undock.

the short answer to the OP is that CCP is rapidly making Goons the only null sec holders and their fore you will have to rent from goons to be in nullsec.

All these changes and the only groups that is totally unaffected is goons. CCP should relay try to hide their intentions better.
