Would like an off button for the new DoD feature / fault.

1: Mixing test and live data is just not a good idea (although CCP seems to have taken a good approach, why take the chance?).

2: If 1 client break when data is shared, it can be all clients (for those of us who have multiple copies, partially for exactly this reason).

3: This now means if you we want to copy an Eve client, we need to copy multiple locations.

4: Using registry at all is just a bad idea, when OS is reinstalled you have to figure out what was in there and redo it.

*EDIT* To clarify, all that is needed here is an option to not use the shared location, and just store data in the client folder as it has been done up till yesterday.

more download on demand questions/features --

need a way to save the cache folders automatically if/when reinstalling the client. it sometimes happens that the client becomes so fouled by external events [system error overwrites some files, or HDD suffers partial damage] that the client must be reinstalled.

it would save huge bandwidth if the cache could be saved automatically in such circumstances so that the entire 2 Gb or however big it is need NOT be downloaded again. yes, use the repair tool to determine which cache files are damaged and must be replaced, etc.

thanks for the thought and effort

I like the theory of this, but i was wondering if i couldnt just download the entire patch traditionally?

I have good internet speed but i'd rather not have to download data in a combat-or-combata-nalog situation

yeah I don't like this option of download on demand or when needed. I play other games that do this and its annoying of having to download stuff with every area I went and such. I prefer to download everything at once and when its done, I play with no problems.

There is an option to download all data regardless if you need it or not.

Not sure if it will download from launcher though, and not sure it will be at a decent speed if its during gameplay only.

This.

DoD is mildly annoying in games that have loading screens as you traverse from one 'map' to the next. In a game such as EvE, it's just a bad idea. How long, if it hasn't already, until someone loses a fight because they were forced to download new data when running from hostiles? How long until someone gets away from the people chasing them because the pursuers had to wait to download new data?

Give me back my launcher that let me download entire patches, not the crap bypass you have now that made me download 14GB of stuff to a location unknown and unsetable.

Edit: DoD is also terribad for people who tether or broadcast their mobile data connection to their PC. If you keep a small data bandwidth on your mobile plan, it makes it very difficult to manage your data usage if bandwidth is not consistant.

It's not unknown and is indeed set-able.

After Scylla release, when first opening Launcher, it said "blah blah blah download on demand... want to put resource cache in C:\Program Files\CCP\Blahwhatever...

In launcher settings this can be changed.

I accidentally set my cache folder to my current Eve folder which caused it to copy 13GB of data back onto itself. Complete waste of time.

Then I changed the target folder, and it attempted to start downloading everything again. I had to close the launcher, move over the 13GB res folder, then load the launcher. I think it's good now.
