CCP, Where did the system and region descriptions go ?

The different regions used to have some text in the description, with some history of that region.

E.g. Deklein used to mention the old gates, and the tradition of the gate crews there.

Same for regions like Stain and Esoteria, which contained a lot of information about Sansha's Nation. And the drone regions which had snippets of stuff about drones.

But now they just say "region". What?

Same for star systems. There weren't many star systems with a description, but Sahtogas was one, it contained the text of the Apocryphon in the description.

But now it just says "star system"

What happened? and why ?

I never knew there were some systems with a non-generic description tab.

Is there any place where they might have been saved for reference?

This issue was bug reported on SiSi multiple times concerning the difference between the new map and the old much more functional map.

These regional information links were not being copied over to the new map which is a terrible shame. They added vibrancy and significant regional flavor to the experience of using the map and getting to know Eve.

:tinfoil:

It makes you wonder:

  • Is lore being systematically ripped out of the game in favor of it being purchased in books like source?

  • Is it easier to not include it in the game complicating the player experience with useless trivia?

  • Does it take too much time to feature flavor and immersion enhancing elements within the map vs. leaving useless non-player generated setting information out?

  • Is the setting's lore now being over-simplified much like the change to obvious module names was brought about in order to make eve much easier to grasp and understand?

EC-P8R used to have "Get the pod!" in its description instead of "Solar system". Not sure if that is still the case.

edit: It no longer is.

I think it's awful!

Bring the descriptions back! I love the lore of Eve, and I think it's kind of a shame so many folks aren't aware of it, but on the same token, I always felt like there was a good balance; for people who didn't care much for lore it was never in your face, but those who wanted it could find it. Things like Region descriptions are there for the people who like to snoop around for stuff like that and gone for those who don't.

And it's lore, some might argue that it subtracts from the theme of Eve being a player defined world but we are all always building off of the achievements of others. The lore constitutes that past, but it doesn't prevent us from feeling a sense of ownership over this future.

This is a known issue and a defect. It also has nothing in particular to do with the new map.

Bear with us and be assured the material is not lost.

I am investigating this issue and working with others to resolve it.

You have made me a very, very happy lorenerd. The system/region descriptions were always one of the most interesting parts of EVE lore for me, since they weren't immediately noticeable but not terribly hard to find: Noticing another one always felt like discovering something interesting.

I will be very glad to see them back.

I'd never seen these before, or at least I'd never registered I was seeing them. Some of them are really beautiful.

Did they return with the new patch? They still weren't there when I checked it before the patch.

This is still an open issue that I would hope to address as soon as possible. As sov work had high priority and as this issue involves related UI systems, I have not been pursuing it.

I do appreciate people want these back and it's not slipped off the radar.

Apologies for delay and I hope to have better news soon.

It's very reassuring to hear that CCP hasn't forgotten about this either. The small touches in the lore really helped this game come alive, and it's diminished for their loss.

Quote:
Extremely valuable gas clouds have been discovered in the Pegasus constellation which have created a gold rush. ORE was quick to claim 'ownership' as the constellation borders its sovereign space, but the Serpentis and the Syndicate, as well as multiple entrepeneurs from the Gallente Federation, have all claimed their own piece of the pie. Inevitably collisions have occurred and the constellation has become a sort of 'warzone' between various groups of greedy claimants.
