Re-routing had been done with Yulai in Genesis region back in pre-2007/8 AFAIR.

NO
the game didn't make those places as trade hubs, the pilots did, and has more and more people traded there, more and more people went there.
If thera was a highsec or something that could be easily traded in with out being camped at a hole or station, Thera would probably develop a high population too.
Nullsec could have a high set of proper trade hubs if people did try to grow a massive epeen killing anything that isn't them, and the people that did run the markets out there didn't charge exorbent prices
This is a player run player driven game, NPCs didn't say we are going to sell here, here and here. players did.

I think the only plausible ways being new space was discovered, and the empire(s) immediately establish a strong presence there, OR a splinter empire faction was reconnected, and embraced concord, OR, a new empire was discovered that decided to unite up with the current groups.

perhaps a super nova exploding and all sucked into a black hole in some parts of space could be wiped out , you would then have a new area more open we could all do a rush for the stations .perhaps high sec whatever areas ccp want to change
