So it fits in 1400 arty, and 425 autocannons. How does the same round fit in the guns differing by almost a full meter in diameter?

Maybe ammo isn't really ammo until it is processed in the loading, hence why reloading can take a while, at least in comparison to focus crystals that take almost no time at all to load.

So ammo is more like the raw materials the guns use to construct the ammo they need. and L just indicates it is an amount required for the gun to fire once.

The ammo is a semi-solid brick that's forced into the gun. Any excess is used to fuel our seemingly unlimited power supplies.

they are compressed with winrar before loading to gun and when loading takes rpocessing its decompressed into full size.

in reality most likely ammunition is assembled during load

It is called a sabot.

its not the size that counts

its how you chamber your round

The interior of artillery barrels contain a series of sphincters that clench down on the rounds so that they fit snugly. This contraction is also what enables the load to be spit out to greater distances.

My Google fu is stronk. I got it from some talk about tank guns.

A sabot projectile, is actually a sub-calibre projectile of any sort which can be fired through a larger-calibre bore gun by means of a surrounding sabot or bore adaptor made of wood/plastic/metal which brings the sub-calibre projectile up to that gun's actual bore diameter

sabot noun a wooden clog, or a shoe with a wooden sole, as formerly worn by the French peasantry.

There are for example sabot rounds for 12g shotguns - an alternative type of slugs to Brenekke for example. There used to be (may still be) commercially produced (Remington or Winchester) rounds for .308 and .30-06 hunting rifles which fire a .224 calibre bullet by means of a plastic sabot. Sabot rounds for artillery guns have been with us since the Napoleonic era. There are even sabot projectiles available for .22 airguns!

So, all of the tank rounds you talk of are sabot projectiles, but by the method of firing rather than projectile type. Most of these are actually kintic energy warheads.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Yes it could be very possible to have two systems with the same chamber diameters but vary the bore via the changeover of a sabot around the projectile. The average speed of a NATO 5.56 is 3000 to 3300 FPS but I have seen them used in .308 cal systems with a sabot and taking velocity up to 5000 (experimental load). The regular sized projectile would be half that speed. It's possible to purchase sabots for small arms and load them yourself. I have done it.

I have wondered about this for years, why there is one ammo size for three categories. In a way it's a good thing because if there were as many sizes as there were gun sizes ammo shopping would be a real pain in the ass.

Bet the entire cartridge is caseless too.

Except there are no BPOs for sabots, we never have to buy them, or build them, or load them. If they allow a 425 mm round to fit 1600 mm gun, then they would be larger than the round. Yet they use no cargo space?
