I''ve been always envious of the kinds of machariels that would sit at 100-200 km from a bubble shooting stuff. I'm not really comfortable putting that kind of isk on the table, but the new tier 3 battlecruisers may make for some fun.
I can fly both Amarr and Minmatar and am going to try the next 2 setups:

[Oracle, Nightmare sniper]
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Damage Control II

Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range
Sensor Booster II
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners

Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Aurora L

Medium Energy Locus Coordinator I
Medium Ionic Field Projector I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

500 dps with 168 km optimal 40 km falloff aurora crystals. With AB 500 m/s.
850 dps with with 47km optimal 40 km falloff if you use Imperial Navy Multifrequency.
This setup has a bit trouble with cap, that's why I fit an AB.

[Tornado, Machariel Sniper]
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II

Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range
Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range
Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive

1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Tremor L

Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Ionic Field Projector I

390 dps with 150 km optimal 100 km falloff termor. With MWD 1600 m/s.
682 dps with with 42 km optimal 100 km falloff if you use republic fleet emp, but more important. 11k alpha.
This setup has a no trouble with cap, that's why I fit an MWD.

I am going to try them both out and see what the results are going to be.

nice, this is gonna make result in gate camps when a single enemy comes in... be aware of fleets with a covert or recon, they can scan you down in seconds and blow u up!

Tornado needs way more sensor boosters and scan resolution scripts so it can lock and shoot small targets before they have time to **** their pants.

Think Gleam L for max DPS. It provides a spiffy tracking bonus and push the alpha up to 6,000. Just saying.

oh yea, you absolutely want a MWD on it. The M stands for mandatory, really. You'll need to either drop the locus or plugin a PG2, tho. 500m/s sounds veeeery slow to play around bubbles. If that's all you have, you might as well go entirely without propulsion mod and stuff something that will help you bank stuff even better. Maybe a TP?.

Don't worry too much for the "lack of cap". It will not be an issue. You can burn for almost half an hour without shooting. I'm guessing it's the 2m 20s with everything running that bothers you but don't worry. If it comes to that, with the "tank" these ships have and the tracking of Tachys, you'll de dead long before capping out anyway. :V

It knows what you think.

It is mainly meant for taking potshots at fleets passing through with a dictor throwing a bubble or an anchorable bubble where 4-5 of us sit at 150-200 km aligned to a bookmark. Maybe kill 2 or 3 before they manage to burn out of a bubble and warp off when stuff gets close.

With that range will tracking still be an issue? I thought not.

Tracking from 200km away? It may work well but then again it may not. ofc it will depends entirely on what it is you are shooting at and how their pilots are flying their ships etc.

Frigates? It's possible to hit them at 200 if transversal is in the low two digits but don't expect to hit. Tachys and 1400s are lame ducks for killing frigate hulls. I've completely missed a Hound from 220km away as it was sitting at 0 m/s twice in a row because my Apoc itself was moving at 117m/s... and that was with beams, never mind Tachyons! Dramiels and interceptors will run circles all day around you without breaking a sweat ever. They won't even need a prop mod at all. It's that bad so know this!

Most cruiser hulls won't be a problem, still, many will out track you if they know what's up. You will score good hits on the likes of Cynabals and Vagabonds if they are approaching you directly at full steam from 200+km away. On the other hand, you'll probably never score more than a lucky shot if it landed it's favourite orbit on it's preferred kitting range. Get out of there before this have a chance to happen. Speedy interdictors like Sabre and Heretic will out-track your guns at any range if it wants to. You won't hit them if they MWD along a perpendicular path, for one. You would think that at 240km away, tracking wouldn't be an issue against a MWDing shield tanked ship? Sig blood and all that? lol.. That one time, in 6VDT, that Sabre dodged 12 volleys in a row just by flying perpendicular to me. Was both hilarious and embarrassing at once. :D

BS hulls are almost 100% guaranteed to soak the full wrath of your Tachyons or 1400s. Then again, an afterburning nano Typhoon or Armageddon within scrambling range can handily outfly your tracking. I've done it and it's hilarious.

In short, range DOES mitigate some tracking issues but it's not a given so take great care at stacking odds in your favour. It's EASY to tip the oddd against a sniper. These things are quite restrained... The general consensus said "snipers are dead" for a reason... but that was before tier 3 BCs. They have good scan res and speed to work with... unlike BS like Apoc and Rokh.

Things are a changing. Undock and get out there with your sniper gang.
Try things...

Experience gathering is what I intend, that's why I bought two of each fully aware that they probably will get lost. What I will add to the equation is a scimi-alt with tracking links, that should help a lot.

That oracle fit looks fun.

You forgot one very important point....the stupidity of some of the pilots out there. Twisted

The number of times I've instapopped interceptors/faction frigates in an Arty sniping BS because the MWD'd straight at me is unreal.

228 on the tornado 247 on the oracle if you use pure range range sripts.

I had my first fight today with a few fleeties. And yes the T3 battlecruisers are nice at applying dps @ range. Nut they are just WOW and AWESOME at keeping falcons off the field. We had a battle and the enemey falcon came in 3 times and had to warp off three time.

Outranging falcons: pretty sweet.

Sad but very very true. Ive even seen Inties fly head on into missiles at 4k m/s. If it wasn't over so fast, I would try to get a montage video of deaths in that fashion. Would probably be fun to watch.

Now that you mention it, even the Talos can do this, and those frigs? Guess who has a drone bay...

Only problem is that you need to fit a rig to get the proper CPU, though I haven't looked at a comparison of using the rig for locking range and a low or mid for tracking. About to try this on sisi...

I would think the naga would make a better sniper having the damage bonus and the optimal bonus. Just need to stack some tracking comps on it.
