I understand that the colonies breached the charter, it's not surprising since the people who built them were clearly preparing to go their own way, but shall we simply ask if the response was proportionate?

The original response was to try and bring the colonies under Federal regulation.

The Caldari refused and immediately withdrew from the Federation, creating a hostile entity both within and on the border of the Federation. (Note: I use the term "hostile" to mean "dissenting," not necessarily hostile in a military stance)

From there, history is a catastrophic cycle of disproportionate responses from both sides and from special interest groups or extremist factions within those sides.

So, the short answer: No, it was not.

As far as I am aware colonies were outside of Federal territory. Gallenteans were putting their own colonies, but Caldari colonies for you were the "threat", even if they were outside of your territory. Only Caldari Prime signed that disgusting charter and only because it was surrounded and basically had no other option.

Since gallenteans demanded from us what doesn't belong to them, we couldn't tolerate such insolence and left that disgusting agreement. We didn't want to be associated with greedy gallenteans anymore, but when we decided to just leave and stay by ourselves, gallenteans started their military campaign to occupy our territories, and their first action was blockade of our homeworld.

1. No, the colonies were not outside Federal territory because the Caldari were a part of the Federation under the Federal Charter. Thus, any expansion they made was supposed to be made under the Federal Charter. Ergo, any colonies built by the Caldari, regardless of their location, were considered Federation colonies. Note the use of the term "Federation" (to which the Caldari belonged) not "Gallente."

2. Caldari colonies were not a "threat," they were a direct violation of the Federal Charter which the Caldari had signed. Do not try and mince politics with me Commander Kim, Caldari Prime was the representative body of your people at the time. Thus, any treaty or charter signed by the Caldari on Caldari Prime was signed in representation of the Caldari as a whole. I would strongly urge you to consider very carefully about arguing this point because it carries very significant consequences if you are trying to state that Caldari Prime was independent from the Caldari when it signed the charter.

3. The Gallente didn't demand anything. The Federation demanded that you honor the contract under which you were signed and knowingly and willfully breached.

4. You disagreed with the conditions of the charter and considered it an affront that the Federation would seek to enforce it, regardless of the fact that it was a legally binding contract that you had signed and the Federation was well within its legal rights to pursue its execution and enforcement.

5. The Gallente did not start military action by occupying anything, the first response of the Federation was to blockade the stargates leading into and out of Caldari Prime to prevent relocation of military assets to Caldari Prime. At this point, the Federation was still seeking non-military resolution to the dissension between the Caldari and the Federation.

6. The first hostile action taken by either side was the bombing of Nouvelle Rouvenoir by the Templis Dragonaurs, the latter fact being unknown to the Federation at the time and thus being seen as action taken by the Caldari proper.

7. This is a tired story that has been told over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Both the participants and the observers have grown quite weary of it.

As the Gallente came to Caldari Prime, so the Caldari came to Achura.

So, if you are Caldari, whatever colony you start automatically becomes Federal? Is that what is written in your charter?.. Since it is your charter, could you please quote it?
Besides that, saying things like "Federation" not "Gallente", I think you have forgot which federation we are talking about. Would it be Caldari Federation maybe?... Alas... Gallente Federation. GALLENTE Federation.

Oh, so Gallente can build their colonies as much as they can, and Caldari can't? And now trying to put your dirty hand on everything that has Caldari name or descended from Caldari? How about NO?
The treaty had a good side of cooperation in trade matter. But on other hand, it was enforced to our people under the threat of economic blockade. It was a racist agreement, allowing gallente doing whatever they want and prohibiting Caldari from doing the same.

3. Again, what exactly was violated, when Caldari colonists started to expand outside of Federal space? Is there a chapter, prohibiting doing so? Then gallente will be officially branded as racists once and forever.

4. As gallentean tried to rob us, we decided to leave that agreement. Since it wasn't sort of deal, where we bought something from Federation and refused to pay, but it was a cooperation type of deal, you can just leave it with one side, notifying another about termination of cooperation contract. We have decided that keeping that agreement does to Caldari more evil than good, and we decided to leave it, disallowing gallenteans to rob us legally anymore. And then gallente used military force to enforce their charter illegally, where legally it should have been terminated.

5. It was full economic blockade, not "weapon embargo".
There wasn't any dissension or something requiring resolution, neither military, nor non-military, we have left the agreement and that shameful chapter of our life as federal puppet was over. Gallenteans were trying to subdue us by this blockade to "restore" agreement and put us back into their hegemony.

6. Economic embargo supplied by military ships IS military action. Gallente made first hostile actions. Terrorists made second. Gallente made third - bombing and occupation.

Quite significant that you stop the story on that Nouvelle Rouvenor, before one of the greatest atrocities gallente has done, besides ramming of Malkalen and operation Highlander - it was this bombing of Caldari Prime and following occupation.

And if you forget it so easy, maybe we really should bomb your homeworld and occupy it, maybe then you will start understanding us, eh?.. because without it I don't see we would find common language to talk. Maybe delay this conversation to your planetary bombing then? And just do whatever we can to make this even come faster, what would you say?

And the last thing, by saying gallente started the war, I was referencing to later events, that happened about 7 years ago, not those that happened 200 years ago.

What a tragic mistake. Perhaps the sensible response would be to try to mitigate the consequences instead of compounding them. So SIMPLE to say and yet I know how hard it is to do.

A given word is a given word, disregarding whom it was given, it must be followed. Otherwise you would dishonor yourself and will become something like a minmatar. This is like a basic principle of honor, to keep true to what you say.
Besides that, this is how you earn trust, and without trust you can't conduct business, which is extremely important for all Caldari.

Of course, gallentes are subhumans and trusting them in first place is a huge mistake, they don't have honor and will betray you anyway. Regardless that they shouldn't be considered as humans, I try to avoid giving my words to them.

Wow...

the hypocrisy and racism in that paragraph makes me ashamed to be related to Kim in any way, shape, or form (in this case, by being a fellow capsuleer).

I am sorry for all the Caldari people who you claim to speak for, Diana. No sane person, regardless of race, would want you as their spokesperson after that remark.

Wait you don't give words to the Gallente? You realise this is a publicly accessible forum right? Any words you put here are basically given to all the people you consider "Subhuman". As a thought, If you don't like giving words to what you consider subhuman perhaps you should leave these public forums and go to a place where a Caldari can assure the genetic purity of the people she wants to talk to? Perhaps one of the local Caldari channels of communication could be more receptive to your "given word".

Diana Kim I tried to understand your view. Even thought about leaving Fac War because of a few of your reasonable arguments. You ******* bigot go drink some tea and pretend to have honour.

As giving a word I meant a promise.
And before sending me away to just "Caldari audience", I will give you huge NO.
While you gallenteans will keep occupying our Caldari Prime, our planets in Black Rise I will continue fighting you with both my guns and my words, I will put everything I have to destroy anyone, who would stand for Federation with weapons in hands, to destroy anyone, who put their greedy hands to our homes, to destroy anyone, who kills our colonists and steal our goods.

While you continue your agression towards us, YOU WILL HAVE NO PLACE TO HIDE.

Not to mention the fact she destroyed her own argument with Liam.

"A given word is a given word, disregarding whom it was given, it must be followed."

As was said, the Caldari gave their word, in agreement with the federal charter at the time, not to expand without federal approval. They then broke that word.

By her own words, the Caldari 'dishonoured' themselves. Of course, she will just see this and tell me what a propagandist I am, blah blah blah.

I wonder if she even realizes the depth of her own hypocrisy?

Don't play me a fool, gallentean.
When you join a corporation and then leave it and join another you don't break your word. You terminate one contract and make another contract.
If that's definition of your dishonor, gallentean Xadirian, you have dishonored yourself for leaving University of Caille in the first place. Now go kill yourself, wash away your dishonor with your own blood and stop wasting my and other readers time with your ridiculous claims.
