hi!

So I'm on my trial account (brought a few months sub last night) and I went straight into data and relic exploration after tutorials. I loved scanning and hacking and hit the jackpot with an angel control tower bpc which sold for 450m, which for a week old player new to eve was amaaaaazing!

Now however I want to move into hunting explorers in low/null sec and was wondering how I even begin to do this - if someone could help me out id be grateful! (Bear in mind I have no pho experience and have only done relic data hacking)

Much appreciated! :D

The best ship for the job is the Astero.

You will be hunting mostly Covops so the little Sisters Frig is totally ample, even op for the job.

The best place is Low sec systems near to Hi sec. Enter, safe up, scan the sites down and bookmark them. Then you can safe up again, cloak, and when you get a punter you can locate them by narrow angle Dscanning the bookmarks. Warp in, 'politely introduce yourself' and Scoop the loot.

It's a bit like fishing. Personally, it got old quickly for me. But you will learn a lot about Dcanning, safe's and general awareness/survival while you perfect it.

How does one scoop loot? Or is that polite terms for wait for him to loot the can and then destroy them?

Yes the latter. Once you land on grid, they will abandon the hack and try to run. You are destroying them to access whatever they have in their hold from previous hacks, and whatever mods drop from their wreck. A 'Sisters Probe launcher' is the jackpot.

Alternatively you can scan down C2 wormholes and the relics inside of them. Then it is just a matter of waiting in the pre-scanned sites. If there are multiple relics in the wormhole then just spam d-scan to you see someone enter a relic site. It seems like the relic sites in C2s do not last long at all so I doubt you will come up dry. You can use either an Astero or bomber. It'll then make you want to train up for an even bigger cloaky ship, a recon or Stratios maybe ad then roll a alt for backup. Lol

while the astero is a very capable combat frigate, a bomber fit with small weapons is I think better since you don't have the targeting delay on de-cloak, dps and tank aren't really a big concern when attacking scout frigates since they aren't fit for combat, your primary concern is catching them.

You also need a lot of patience, I tried it but lost patience before I ever caught any scouts.

The Astero is good if you want to continue running sites, but also have the firepower to attack cov-ops explorers you come across. It's also possible with a Helios and it's single drone. But, if you really want to hunt then a stealth bomber is the quickest path. Longer term a proteus has a much larger engagement profile.

Chance Ravinne has posted a lot of YouTube videos of his stealth bomber exploits. He also developed a very well done guide -- it has a price, but you can get it for free via a cumbersome download process.

p.s. Patience is a requirement - or a 2nd account that can be doing something else while you're waiting.

You need any cloak ship with dual scram + some dps. Iv'e killed stuff in a 30 dps imicus. Usually the data/relic runners do not have guns/drones and rely on dual warp core stabs too keep them safe. If your thinking about hunting in DED's , you will not a t3 or atleast 2 people . 1 cloaky tackle and 1 dps with neuts

If you run 2 accounts put a sensor boosted lachesis in a safe spot and cloak it (t1 or t2 cloak). Use a cloaky scanny ship to get a good warp in on the hacker. Align the lach, uncloak and warp. Get those sebos up and active. Land and multi scram the poor poor ******* and gut him like a fish.

It's that easy. Even if the guy has combats out, the odds are good you'll be on him before he gets a chance to run.

For solo - I'd go bomber just because there is no uncloaking delay. Multiple scrams on your target become problematic at that point, but tbf, if they fit them for a reason.

I completely agree with the Astero.

Fit it with two scrams as most covops frigates have at least a couple warp stabs on them.

Your primary DPS is going to be drones. So fly the best drones you can.

And I also highly recommend sitting in the null sec exploration sites that have spawned in lower class wormhole systems.

Without the aide of local, other explorers really have zero idea that you're there until its too late.

You just need to scan down an exploration site, then sit and wait for someone else to scan it down and start hacking cans. A lot of time they're too involved with the minigame that they don't even see you on overview until you start locking them.

... why would anyone do that running sites in a live-fire area? Scrams scale up faster than stabilizers, and you're screwing yourself over on being able to target back to engage active defenses.

My expectation for anyone running sites in a covops is that they're probably set up for fast align time so they can warp out during decloak targeting delay. Which is why I'd stick with a stealth bomber to pop them instead.
