hey guys

i recently got a tornado from a friend, my skills are fine for a Shield fit, and Meta 4 Large guns, so i put together a fitting in EFT and i was looking for opinions

I mostly plan to do belt ratting and Small sites such as hubs etc with it in lowsec/highsec, so im curious of peoples opinions

My plan is to sit outside at range and snipe, but frigates do concern me abit

P.S im only after torny builds, i cant afford another ship right now so im stuck with this

you need an MWD, you simply do not have the tank to take any form of sustained damage and your sig to speed ratio is still pretty bad with an AB.

ABCs aren't really good mission runners but it's entertaining when you could pull it off....... lot of range control and angular V manipulation needed.

As explained above: it's not really any good for it unless you can kite with low transversal but if you could do that then you probably wouldn't have to ask here (not being a ****, just realistic). Warping in at range in a belt and nuking the bigger targets while MWDing to keep range can work fine without being super at it. Using it in sites will probably end in tears unless you really know what you're doing.

I 'rat in a beam Oracle from time to time, and as long as you're sticking to belts and smaller anomalies, what you have listed should work fine. Just make sure that you warp in at range and kill the smallest things first while they're still far away from you.

A few suggestions based on my own experience:

1. Drop down to 1200mm arties. You'll lose a bit of DPS and range, but you'll gain RoF and tracking, which is very handy, plus it should let you replace some of those fitting rigs with more useful stuff. I dropped from tachs to mega beams in my Oracle and had much better luck with that.
2. Don't group all of your guns together. If you fire a full salvo of 8 guns at a frigate at long range, you're likely going to be wasting about 6 of those 8 shots. I do two groups of four in my Oracle, but you may be better off with four groups of two given the alpha you'll have.
3. Better agility and warp speed really help with long outings. If you take my advice from #1, consider some polycarb rigs or warp speed rigs.
4. Don't try missions with this. You don't have the range to really range tank, and you don't have the tank to actually tank. The only reason you can do belts and small anoms is because you have just enough buffer to kill a few targets. If you want to really range-tank a mission, you almost need a Naga.

ABCs aren't necessarily the best 'ratting ships, but I have fun with them and they work. Just don't forget that despite those big guns, you have the tank of a T1 cruiser without the speed and agility.

Good hunting.

For reference, here's the Oracle fit I use (against Sansha and Blood Raider 'rats):

Mega Beam Laser II x 8, IN Standard crystals

10MN AB II
LSE II
EM Shield hardener II

Meta 3 DC
Heatsink II x 3
Nanofiber II x 2

Warp speed rig
T2 Energy weapon optimal range rig
T2 anti-thermal shield rig

524 DPS
2598 Alpha
676 m/s
81km targeting range
72 +19km weapon range
21k EHP vs EM/Thermal 'rats

If you can't afford another ship I'm guessing you'll really be stuck when someone drops in on you in a assault frigate or something cheap and small with an AB and breezes through your paper tank all within 500 meters or so, large Guns won't be much help. don't fly wat you can't afford to lose ...or suffer the grief
