Mining for a PLEX on Venture

No, I'm not going to try this. I may be dumb, but not insane. However, it seems that first thing ANYONE tries is mining and ANYONE got an idea to mine PLEX on his Venture.

The question is — how all of them come up to this?

I do remember my time, I was shooting small crosses, then investigated some signatures, found wormhole and said "Hello" in local. Returning to shooting crosses. With lucky drop of Serpentis Hardener early, hearing stories about salvage and getting links on quite costly and light armor plates with tripped powers, learning about LP, it's value (It was about 800 isk/lp for non-SoE corps) and book that boosts LP gain by 50% and ability to dish out about 2.5 mil per hour in bounties only running anoms in rail catalyst, not counting anything else.

It's something that baffles me, too; I imagine back in the day when PLEX prices were a lot lower then they are now, it would've been possible. Maybe they're looking up out-dated articles on how to play F2P in EvE or something like that? Even then, it seems a bit odd; rinse and repeat the same (in my opinion, fairly mundane) activity for x amount of hours per day, just so you can do the exact same thing the following month...? I'm pretty sure that's crossing the line between "playing" and "working".

^^ This probably. Unfortunately b/c of all the new stuff plex does the price has inflated so badly that it's no longer really practical to pay for subscription via plex as a new-ish player. But you see old references to it everywhere.

I didnt know you could buy isk using GTC and/or plex until 2 years after I started playing. Didnt even occur to me to be honest.

But I guess thats how it is these days. No wonder the NPE fails....

Well if you go hard out for the first ~20 mil. You can buy the gas mining skillbook and get into gas mining fairly fast. That can be an easy 10M -20M or more per hour in lowsec. So assuming you don't die in your first few loads, and don't die all that often afterwards (not so hard in lowsec in a ventrue), You could do it with like 40 to 80 hours of semi afk mining.

WH diving in a prospect could make quite a lot more, well over 100M per load.

Don't get me wrong. I totally think it is not worth it. But even someone in our corp is logged on 24/7 trying to plex. They are crazy.

Yes it is possible to plex an account in a week playing playing 3 hours per day, but it is not for everyone and you cant do it AFK.

I was able to afford 3 PLEX while semi-afk mining in order to marathon the X Files. If i'm watching a t.v. show then I might as well have Eve-Online open at the same time because it's very easy to afk and make isk at the same time.

It can be done, just not in a asteroid field, you want to make a plex in a venture the way to go is with gas harvesters. 1 hold of the right gas in a Venture can bring in 47 to 50 million ISK. Harvesting at a slow pace and goofing-off, you can mine 4 loads in a few hours. All in all, it is not that hard to do.

Best way to get PLEX for a new player imo is to either do FW Missions / PvP Plexes or to engage in Exploration (focusing on data / relic sites while combat skills flesh out).

Actually I think your question does not warrant an answer because it is based on wrong assumptions.

I don't think a lot of people get the idea to mine for plex in a venture.

I think a lot of people, if not the majority are happy paying CCP a subscription to do whatever they enjoy ingame.

The remaining people - probably a monirity - may wish to PLEX their accounts. The majority of these persons will do what they enjoy most and earn money doing missions or faction warfare or exploring or ratting or research the most efficient ways to earn ISK. Only a fraction of people wishing to plex their accountswill go down the mining route as mining is one of the least profitable professions.

Of this fraction doing mining to plex their accounts most will easily notice that upgrading your mining vessel to a barge will greatly increase the profit. I think only a minority of the fraction of a minority will stubbornly insist on mining in a Venture. In fact until today I have never spoken to, encountered or even heard of any person wishing to mine his/her ass off with a venture to buy PLEX.

PLEX prices were inflated due to ISBox/botting use. They have come down since December policy announcement and have still further to fall. Blink

Different people play in different ways, and if someone wants to plex their account, then more power to them. I do actually manage to plex the only account that I have, but that really is because I have nothing else to do with the ISK right now. And I actually manage to plex the account doing something that I enjoy doing (and no, it is not mining!).

Agreed, but I thought I made it pretty clear that if you want to plex your account using a venture, you cant actually be afk while doing it.

I personally don't do mining to plex my account. I just said it is possible.

Work at McDonalds for $5/hr. That's 1 PLEX per 4 hours (i.e. 200m ISK/hr).

Can't beat that ISK/hr rate. And it's just as enjoyable and edifying as any other money making activity in Eve.

Alternatively, if you just find yourself missing the joys of EVE PvE from time to time, which is totally understandable, just try inserting a rusty screwdriver through your left eyeball.

It feels just like the real thing! Guaranteed to give you the exact same satisfaction as making money in Eve!
