Hello, capsuleers!

I’m a doctoral psychology student at Antioch University Seattle. I’m working on my dissertation, which is related to the way identity is expressed in virtual worlds. Who is your EVE character? How is he/she different from you, the player at the keyboard? How do these identities interact? These are some of the questions my study is getting at.

I’m looking for some players to participate in confidential one-on-one interviews, about an hour each, over Teamspeak, Skype, Mumble, or any other voice client (or a private text channel, as a last resort). I’m interested in new players, longtime players, people who specialize in combat, industry, trading, corporation management, PVP, PVE…I’m interested in hearing form everybody! Participants will be given a modest sum of isk as a token of appreciation for their time.

If you are interested, tentatively curious, or have any questions, please send me an email. I’d be glad to hear from you!

Note: this research study is strictly for the purpose of my doctoral dissertation; I am not affiliated with CCP or any external marketing services, nor am I selling or advertising any goods or services.

The "Note:" make me tense.

Why don't you start with yourself and your VI?

So, how many folks would you be seeking to do this. Are you reaching for a specific number of people? How much interview time are you looking to cap at. I usually dont even consider anything like this to be remotely interesting but i have to admit that its peaked my curiosity.

I'll ponder on it for a while.

Destiny always seems decades away, but suddenly it's not decades away; it's right now. But maybe destiny is always right now, right here, right this very instant, maybe.

I am just amazed at how many people have integrated EVE into their PHD studies.

Oh yeah. White collar crime. Many do it, few think about it.

Hi Esoterian,

This sounds like a very interesting dissertation thesis.

I am part of EDU Gaming CIC, an e-learning community interest company developing a social media platform to promote learning with video games and other technology. You may have seen some of the competitions we have been running with Eve Online?

We have a growing community and you would be welcome to post your request for participants on our website to see if there are any community members who would like to get involved. We already have a few Eve members chatting on there and I'm sure there would be a couple that would be interested in your work.

Check it out here:

Best wishes,

I'll do it, but not over a mic. I can listen to you, but you'll have to accept keystrokes from me.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

If you still need people for this, I'd be willing to help.
