What is the purpose of stations w/o repair services?

I am just trying to wrap my head around what inherent gameplay value there is in having Repair Services not be universal to all stations? For the life of me I can't figure out what this actually "adds" to the game, other than make pvp occasionally more annoying than it should be.

Lore perhaps? I'm not sure either. I can't think of any gameplay aspect to warrant limiting repair services to certain stations. The same with all other services except clones. The only think I can fathom is lore and storyline.

They are part of what makes the EVE map non homogenous (other examples are the agents available, factory services, station model) which lead to interesting distributions of player activity influenced by that.

The problem atm is how annoyingly hard it is (number of clicks) to see which stations in system (or nearby) have station services, and there is at least one thread trying to address that problem:

Those stations have less traffic so can make a better base of operations for some corporations.

In addition, having only a few areas with repair services means ambush locations which adds excitement to the game.

It creates more diversity, and trade traffic, that would not exist otherwise.
