Living in nullsec

With the upcoming sov changes I was thinking about null as a home ... but I still can't see the benefits to actually live in nullsec. Logistics, market access, defending sov, required highsec alts, ... all too strong negative points IMO.

For those of you having their main place of residence in null, please tell what were your reasons to move and stay?

I'm my own NPC alt.

Because of the changes that will be made.

I prefer null because it has the least restrictions.

ISK has very little to do with it. I'm bad at making ISK anyway.

I cant see into the future, but I doubt these changes will drive me out.

I have always considered myself a "defender" and "castle builder" - I came in to nullsec to want to be part of something, to help build something, and defend it against all-comers. The isk/reward has never been the point (I've tried ratting/anomolies a couple of times, and each time thought "this **** is stupid" and ignored it). I'll still be in null providing there are walls to defend... but that is what has me worried, its looking less like being able to stand on the ramparts and face down the barbarian horde, and more like sitting in the sewers under the castle rat-catching.

The income from living in null is 10 x better than in high sec and if your with the right group of ppl its much safer than anywhere else..

No we dont have Jita round the corner but really all that equates to to a need to up your game...

the best advice i can give it try it with a good alliance and make your own mind up i promise you will never go back to High sec again

This is a ridiculously simplified view. In lowsec fights do escalate to capital engagements because if you really really want something then you'll present the goods you need to get it.

Not to mention having 2x 48 hour timers with which to defend reinforced systems is more than ample time and in the cases where your structures are being trolles it only takes one guy to get it back

Highsec incursions in decent groups like ISN can pull 100m/hour reliably, with lower risk than similarly paying nullsec activities. As a very long time nullsec resident, the income is nowhere remotely close to 10x more. The only activity that is really safer in null than high is mining.

As for reasons to live in null; the player interaction, the increased consequence of actions, the diplomacy required, the group ops, the feeling of ownership.

I've lived in null several times and hated it each time.

I've even tried being in a alliance twice and disliked it both times. Sure there are some good people out there and there are good times to be had. Basically all we did was pick a few fights that I never saw because I couldn't fly corp fitted ships. So I was relegated to mining a bit untill a neut showed up and we then ran for the pos . I spent more time hiding out then doing anything else.
Im not saying that someone will have the same experience. Give it a go and see how it plays out for you.

No really, the problem over the years was/is the mentality of the ppl that went to null in there distaste and/or reluctance to recruit ppl that are not interested in pvp and are wholly committed to the industrial or pve side of the game, which tbh wasnt there fault as there was/is no incentive to recruit them sort of ppl who cant or wont help defend your space.

If only CCP could introduce a sov system that makes/brings both groups together and makes holding space mutually beneficial to both, end of the day both grps need each other whether they like it or not an both grps benefit from working with each other

All the tools needed to make Null a utopia are in place. It could be a phenomenal place to live with open markets, a solid industrial base and good fights.

The problem is not the place. It's the people. If every null player wasn't a douche, 0.0 would be a whole different place.

Depends were you are. I meet a lot of good people in nullsec who are happy to share a system while you both do seperate things.

And then there are the tedious Russians who will scan you down everytime and set up gate camps to get you even when you have a jump drive

Not that many people realize this.

Some people are afraid of null, because it must be even more chaotic than low sec, or they're hot damn independents who won't join up. So they make 1/10th isk for their effort.

Some assume they're leet because they live in null, possibly in a world of blue, and make fine isk doing much the same things as people in high sec do. Transporting things around involves some more risk, but what the hell. The scale of earnings/hour cover that.

Don't know about the new changes, but whatever you do, doing it in null will load you up better than doing it in high sec.

Recent jump freighter nerf -
null dwellers now have to haul through whs.

Upcoming Sov changes -
more roams coming to pop you

Upcoming local removal -
no more intel on people coming to whack you

Coming soon^tm, sov null = wh space with gates, that you have to pay sov bills for, with far less isk in it.Big smile

Those of you that think that a regular line-member of an alliance makes more money in nullsec than an average highsec carebear know absolutely nothing about wealth generation in EVE.

And that's not a problem with the available wealth in 0.0, that's a problem with how its distributed and that's down to how corporations and alliances are run, and THAT is down to the players, not CCP.
