An observation about Drifter ship design.

Was going over the images, telemetry, and camera drone footage of capsuleer encounters with the Drifters, and saw something in them that looked curious.

Now, this may just be tinfoil hattery, but has anyone else noticed a design similarity between the Drifter ships and the earlier appearance of new ship designs constructed and employed by Mordu's Legion?

I'm not talking onboard technology, obviously Mordu vessels do not have the advanced drive systems, shielding, and weaponry of the Drifter ships (especially not the doomsday type heavy weapon system that they carry)

But, there is a general hull design similarity going on, if you compare, say the Drifter battleship and the Mordu Orthrus, that would almost make it seem like the two vessels, though employing different technology types and levels, are part of the same general design family of ships.

The same holds true for the other Mordu vessels as well, they look like they could come from the same design family with different classes of vessel.

*shrug* I dunna, just a shipbuilder's eye here, but it piques my interest.

It's likely coincidence, in my opinion. Mordu ship designs seem to be lacking alot of the alien qualities as seen on Drifters. For one, what are the Drifters even made of?

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

While i agree that it's probably a coincidence, it is an interesting one.

Given the similarities, the most likely explanation is that the Drifters share - in some way - some lines of thinking with us, or at least the designers of the Mordu ships. I wonder whether the reasoning is the same, inspired by older, radar stealth technology, or whether it has a different purpose. Does it even a have a technical purpose or is the Drifter design actually purely aesthetic, like the Mordu designs?

I think this is a common ground which is worth exploring. It might lead to actual direct contact. Has anyone tried approaching them in an Orthrus yet?

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

The craft you're speaking of are clearly different than what we see with the Drifters.

Please note Orthrus have been flown near the Drifters, and have been destroyed.

Whatever material they are using to build Drifter warships probably has superconductive properties. They are generating shields without any visible shield emitters, their weapons hover over their hulls at the exact same spot despite their high speed maneuvering, signifying advanced electromagnetic manipulation. Moreover, they are firing lasers and what looked to be a doomsday device without any visible physical connection between the ship and the weapons.

The shimmering look on their hull is probably due to the inherent physical properties of this superconductive material.

It's actually well known that the pirate organizations do a lot of their own exploration and deploy their own scientific studies.

They all have covert sites now, and they all appear to be researching the same thing.

True, but Mordu's Legion is not a pirate faction. More like a freelance mercenary coalition. They are working in Intaki, for example, to this day.
