Conlangs and the Roleplaying Community

Relatively recently, I had been working on a setting for a fantasy RPG-by-correspondence completely unrelated to EVE. As I am a fan of conlangs, I began developing a language for the dominant inhabitants of the region in which most of the action takes place. However, as I have gotten back into EVE after a brief hiatus, and as I am a huge fan of the lore, I decided to use that conlang as a basis for what I have called Makubka, a language spoken by a Sebiestor-related tribe on a large island on Matar. Luckily, I didn't create a language too biased by its having been originally one used in a fantasy setting, and I find that, to me at least, it is aesthetically similar to what a group of Sebiestor would speak. It is even developed just enough for me to consider writing up an evelopedia article on it.

Now, this brings me another thing. I have searched and scoured the forums for any clues as to what other players have done in regards to creating Minmatar languages, but with no luck other than insisting on one cultural basis or another (Icelandic vs. Maori, for example). I propose, and the real world would testify to this being true, that in the 20,000 years that our peoples have been spreading out among the stars that there will have been extremely little remaining of our ancestral languages left to really say one way or another which language influenced which group. I believe that as roleplayers we should encourage and be encouraged to create conlangs within the lore of EVE.

So, what have you all come up with in regards to languages (besides the rather famous Intaki language project)? Would anyone be interested in what I have so far for the Makubka Sebiestor language as spoken on Lok Umuk island on Matar?

See my signature!

I'm not really working on Amarrad anymore (and I'm not entirely happy with its current state), but if anyone else wants to keep developing it they have my full blessing!

I suggest you look at the Languages sticky on the Backstage forums. Perhaps the most developed is the Caldari-made language "Napanii", but there is also a thread on there for Minmatar dialects.

Shocked

I didn't realise the Intaki language project was that well known...

The language as it is today can be found on our website here.

For those curious about how the project evolved over time, the original forum thread can be found here.

Oh yeah. It's pretty much the one big one that comes up whenever someone starts digging around for EVE-related conlangs. Hell, I downloaded everything I could on the site a while back. I mean, the Vaanin k'Intaki project went whole hog and formulated a rather lovely (and Tibetan inspired?) writing system to complement it. It's the big kahuna.
