I usually point new players to Brave or Eve uni. Showing them this video I think is pretty useful too to keep them motivated when the usual 'how do I compete with vets with tons of skillpoints?' question comes up.

Mining is great .... gas mining in wormholes I mean Blink

I think above there was a great advice, try things somebody did to you our you saw others doing (in game, videos).

IMO multiple chars/accounts are not necessary to enjoy the game ... I'm happy with Tipa being a singleton Blink, there are only few things you can't do solo or in team of real players.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Nice. One correction though:

As for advice. Mine is the same in game as it is out of game: KNOW YOURSELF and be honest about it. If the game isn't for you, quit, don't keep trying to fit a square peg into a round hole then use that as an excuse to be mad at round holes (when the problem is really the guy holding the square peg lol).

If you find the game is for you, great, keep going, but remember your experience is what YOU make it, not what others (ccp, or players) make it for you.

Take responsibility for your failures faster than you take credit for your successes and you will both fail less and succeed more. . Failure is many times more useful as a learning tool than success ever can be, but only if you are honest. \ People who immediately blame others for their failures, in a (fail) bid to protect their fragile egos, NEVER understand this point, or how they reinforce their own failures by not identifying the source of that failure, which is almost always 'yourself'.

And don't believe that lie about 'trust no one'. Learn who to trust....then keep an eye on them while you're trusting them Twisted

Dont be scared to give out your api keys, learn how they function and what they're for, its not your bank account details, they can't get to any of your stuff with it or control your account in any way with it.

Uninstall and go play your other short attention span instant respawn shooter games, EVE isn't for you. Unless you have patience, this is more like the video games when your dad was your age when it wasn't about getting kill streaks and wanking off to make believe scoreboards while being an ******* about it. When you lose, it hurts....not your pathetic public stats at slightly over 50% (after awhile, being above 50% means you are suprisingly average like everyone else who is above 50% Roll) but the loss from acquiring the isk to pay for the ship and knowledge of how you F**ked up.

Also, its a game ment to have fun. Don't trust anyone, don't fly what you cannot replace easily, and its not real life so don't take it personally while also keeping all your other information private (cause information hurts in EVE, don't tell anyone your alts)

1 ) Forget about Battleships
2) Seriously. Forget about Battleships.
3) Ratting gives you ISK, scales to ability and gives you combat skills.
4) Join a long and estabilished alliance. Look for one that fits your personality.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

always be nice to other fellow players (and i don't mean don't shoot em) and if they are not nice to you (no, killing you ingame doesn't count, i mean chat wise) then just ignore them.

If someone tells you you don't have the SP to be useful, ignore them.

If someone tells you you are wasting ISK, ignore them.

You do not need anyone's permission to have fun in EVE.

If you can't beat them, waste their time and ISK.

90% of EVE players are terrible regardless of SP so be skeptical of good advice.

Don't mine.

Edit: I'll qualify this further.

The amount of training time and skill points you accumulate will be the most inefficient investment you can make in terms of ISK per hour. If you're getting into industry it will be cheaper for you to buy the minerals you need (in the formula of time being money).

Skill points acquired for mining does not translate into an advantage for any other profession in EVE.

The things you learn while mining are rarely applicable to the rest of the game.

Mining is usually a solo activity, though it doesn't need to be that way (though the reality is that it often is).

If you are not mining because you can essentially go AFK doing it, you are going to find EVE boring. Things will become monotonous and you may find yourself looking for something better to do.

The player skill (read: not skill point) barrier for entry to mining is so low, it may hamper you from doing the riskier things in EVE.
So... Having level 5 in all skills under "Resource processing", that's a bad thing? Dammit.
