Today Ghost Creal forwarded a suggestion to Interbus for the proposal of a ship module called the REAVER module to retrofit industrial class ships to deal with the constant attacks upon the many thousands of capsuleers, that regularly fly these vessels this would be a single rig which converts the ship from an industrial vessel into a combat vessel with weapons, defence, power and cpu all taking a dramatic boost at the cost of cargo capacity and thereby reducing the likely hood of pirates and opportunists willingness to engage a virtually defenceless hauler or frieghter, it was also proposed that Interbus make these modules available through the many empire contacts they have for a cost from that factions LP plus Interbus LP thereby bolstering empire relations.

From the outside there would be no visible signs of weapons until the pilot engages as these would be retracted within what was the cargo hold using around 90% of available cargo capacity and a ship such as the Mammoth would support say 8 Battleship class guns with 6 medium and 6 low power slots but no rig slots, where a Hoarder would have 6 BS guns 5 mids and 5 lows and a wreath would have 4 guns 4 mids and 4 lows.
The likes of the Fenrir for example would be able to boast an impressive arsenal as it should with such a large cargo bay being available for guns and fittings supporting 6 capital guns with 6 mids and 6 lows again having no rig slots available as these will be required by the high requirements for fitting the REAVER module.

Tech 2 variations of these ships would also be able to fit these modules and would be converted in the same way but retaining there improved resistances over T1 variant but losing Fleet hangers and ship maintenance bays.

The cost of this module may be expensive estimated at around 50k Interbus LP plus 50k faction LP for hauler size module and double that for the capital size module however the benefits to the transportation industry would be immeasurable and may even bread a new type of combat pilot.

More details to follow.

so just use a combat ship to haul and not waste CCP's time

OH you want a free bait ship that has all the benefits of a full cobmat ship but WITHOUT revealing it on dscan/probes

In reply to the above resistance to the idea Ghost Creal had this to say:

"The Idea was conceived based on the tactics used in World War I & II but in truth was used long before that also, a merchant ship would be converted to a torpedo boat and or gun boat these were used successfully to help reduce attacks on shipping crossing the Atlantic Ocean from German attacks with reasonable success.

I figured if they did it then why shouldn't we be able to do it now, we have ships with vast cargo capacity there is plenty of room and although much like the ships of so long ago the defences may be no better than a standard ship the fire power would be a surprise to anyone making the mistake of trying to score an easy kill.

The only reason I can see for anyone disliking the idea as far as I can tell is because they prey on these easy targets and if so why would they like this idea."

Combat indys already exist, you don't need a special snowflake module to do it for you

People would stop using regular ships if CCP did this lol no, sorry, just not going to happen. Maybe request that CCP gives them mjd that could help get freighters away from bumbers, but beyond that no :/

Just to show it can happen now but this is very very rare and I have only done this once here is an old kill from 2010 where I used a mammoth to bait and kill a war target http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=15504363 these old kill mails didn't always give full details hence it appearing to be not fully fitted.
