bolded note: think hard....awox and taking assets, causing mistrust, in a video game, where there is consequences to actions but boring developer content...EVE would of been better off as a Planet side type game with ships and no idk grind, no asset theft, ect if you think about it. Combat is fun, the isk and asset grind, not so much.

Wow sorry to point you out specifically DC, you are for sure right to your opinion but I think people like you will ruin this game for me. Somehow you have gotten into this game (it seems from that statement, I don’t know your history) and think this is a PvP game and therefore you want to remove “complication” to PvP.

This is why people like you want to remove attribute implants, skill training and ship cost.

To me that’s missing the point of EVE completely, EVE is a sandbox world that’s so much bigger then PvP combat in itself, and actually even CCP realize how important the economy is that they have full time employees looking after that part of the game.
I sincerely hope your side doesn’t win.

TLDR: personal incredulity at the way that CCP chose to advertise the awoxing restrictions in the latest release, plus a contest with an ISK prize, because why not.

I don't make threads often, but something happened today which made me unable to let it go. A friend linked this to me, while laughing uncontrollably. I stared at it for a while in incredulity, but then the sad truth hit me: this is the logical conclusion for which this game was destined all along. It's simply unable to exist in its originally-promised state, due to the continued pushback of the wallet-wielding majority. Not as a for-profit project, at least.
...

Prophets warned us ages ago that mechanics nerfs are tearing down EvE's core of non-consensual conflict, in pursuit of a quick-fix to retaining moar subs (instead of the right way, being better new player education and expectation-levelling...).

Sadly, all the new vegan paper-pants wearing pansies who drive hybrids are swarming into EvE online, and want it to become WoW or Trammel. What's frightening is no one is pushing back anymore.

This will always be the case though, for any game ever made. This argument is akin to saying that a game such as EVE shouldn't exist at all, because the logical conclusion is to always cater to the carebear-oriented players. So niche products literally shouldn't exist because it's always wise to cater to the majority.

The premise would seem sound, but we know it doesn't always work that way. The reason niche markets exist is, in part, to tap into a resource of customers instead of fighting over the majority. You can be successful in the niche.

The point of my post was to show that UO and the Trammel expansion aren't really a good example of "catering to the majority" causing a failure. I wasn't arguing the validity of either side, but the inaccuracy of the example.

EDIT: Eve-O forums don't indent..

TL;DR: Griefers whining about well deserved safari nerf. Eve is dying (again).

I love it.

I don't think anyone from the pvp side argues that catering to the majority would cause failure. Stagnation maybe, because the product would now be one of many fish in a pod, as opposed to the sole fish in an aquarium, but not failure. It's a pretty sound business strategy, after all. The argument is that it would be "just like any other game," and you can already play any other game.

The anti-pvp side, however, claims that not catering to the majority would indeed cause failure, because players are leaving the game, CCP is losing money, etc etc. So are they right, or aren't they? That's what I want to know.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Could you provide links for these? I've seen the posts on attribute implants (which I'd happily toss along with remaps), but I've not read anything from DC (or anyone that I can recall) calling for skill training and ship cost removal.

My apologies if the latter examples are sarcasm, they don't come across as such.

We've been over those Trammel numbers and it certainly looks like it was pretty good for UO, kept it running for several years with a subscriber peak 3 years after Trammel.

Lots of people don't like non-consensual PVP, UO catered to that group and reaped the rewards for years. It worked for them, just because a loud minority of gank-bears didn't like it doesn't make it a bad thing.

I question the notion that people are going to leave because it's become harder to explode newbies in highsec.

I don't remember that notion being conveyed.
