Brand new character, but have played before (for a month or two a few years ago). I really want to get into solo or small group pvp this time around.

I know the best way to do this is fly around in small ships and just get beaten around until I manage to learn.

I am just curious to know how do other people fund their pvp? Should I first do some pve to get money or should I just pvp till I lose my ship, do some pve in my rookie ship until I get money to buy another and go for it again?

PVP in a rookie ship is a recipe for a bad time. My suggestion is to join up with a new-bro friendly Faction Warfare corporation.

You can learn the ropes from more seasoned pilots (thus learning faster than getting your ship blown up a million times without mush or any feedback). New-bro friendly faction warfare corporations also usually have plenty of T1 frigates to hand out for small gang ops and system sieges that you can fly and not have to worry about spending your own ISK.

Being enlisted in faction warfare also allows you to earn Loyalty Points (LP) while being active in a PVP environment. You can then trade in LP for faction modules that you can sell for ISK.

Doing the above will get you on track to becoming an effective small gang member. Looking for solo fights is a bit more complicated and I suggest you stick to small gang with a good group until you start getting your PVP legs under you. The 'Solo' meta in low sec is basically dependent on off-grid links alts, expensive implant sets, expensive fits, and combat boosters... all of which are not transparent to a new guy just starting out, but rest assured the odds are stacked against you. Best to revisit your aspirations to do solo PVP after you master being part of a small gang.

Thank you. I will look into that.

I recommend doing some PvE missions for 4 reasons.

1. It lets you get used to targeting and shooting stuff.
2. It lets you learn to be self sufficient with ISK you earn. There's really nothing more pathetic than some broke ass PvP pilot whining about "I'm broke, Someone help me fit up a Thorax please?"
3. It lets you get used to how skills affect your over all performance, and gives you time to train some.
4. The skills are the same. Training for missions will train you for PvP.

As mentioned above, join R vs B or a faction war corp. Or another PvP oriented corp if you find one you like.
'Solo Noob' is not a good way to experience EVE. Probly make you want to quit.

Almost every ship in EVE dies. Get used to that part and you will have a lot more fun :)
