Unique Steam launcher problem

I can click the launcher, it thinks it launches the game, exe.exe or whatever is listed as CCP in my task manager is running, fan on either my vid card or CPU revs high, but no game. I tried the recommended Steam cache purge but no go.

Reading through issues here, I was running Forsaken Hubs last night, with Guristas missiles, but no asteroids IIRC. IDK, I wanted to run another quickly before bed but no love.

Still an issue. I downloaded and installed the game again even. The launcher launches the exe, which has to be shut off in Task Manager but the game itself never becomes live. I do not even get an icon for it in the system tray.

It played fine Sunday night, and yesterday this. Windows 7 64 bit, new i5 system.

edit: only thing I get from debug is
[0210/081655:INFO:CONSOLE(0)] "The page at about:blank displayed insecure content from launcher:javascriptReady.

Have also found the launcher logs and analytics log but am not sure whether these should be posted publically

Close all CCP Tasks, especially exefile.exe, which is the actual client. Thenrename the settings folder for your client installation, found within %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\ (enter this into the field of the Run command opened bei WIN-R) and see if that helps.

Temporarily switching your client to DX9 instead of DX11 might also be worth a try.

Thanks.

Actually just discovered something interesting. manually launching the exefile.exe from the version I downloaded from a dev last night (installed to c:/program files x86/ccp/ ) worked just fine. HOWEVER, launching the same exefile.exe from my Steam install (installed to c:/program files/steam/steamapps/common/eveonline...) gets this issue. Looking closer and it appears the exe has not been updated since January 17th. So the problem is with how the Steam install is, or in this case appears is not, updating.

e. huh, claims to be the same version of the file. Going to try overwriting the pooched one with the working one

ee. nope. It will not work on the Steam side for whatever reason

Interesting followup: I have a second computer that I had just installed EVE on via STEAM yesterday but had never launched. I just did so now. It updated the launcher to 859550 and then hung for a long while before applying 861477 but eventually did. Clicked launch and...it popped up a command line dialogue box. Then it launched EVE fine.

Not sure why the install at home is pooched. The repair tool found nothing wrong.

Version at home still not working. I noticed the Steam launcher is still version 859550 so IDK maybe I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling because whats another 7 gig download?

e. continuing my EVE Online Forums Tech Support Blog (TM), deleted then reinstalled EVE. First launch of the launcher lead to a failure and crash. Hurray. Second launch appears to be attempting to patch the old 85xxx version so I guess we'll see?

Drumroll......and nothing! Welp.

So my options are now:
1) uninstall EVE, delete Steam, reinstall all, hope some magic has fixed whatever is going on
2) find some nice person at CCP who will read this and help my fix the issue (since I cannot file a bug report) or move this account off Steam
3) Unstall EVE, go play Peggle Unleashed

Please post here with your votes

Vote: continue to play chicken with your BW cap wins. Downloading EVE for the third time in 24 hours after deleting Steam.

Nope. Cannot launch EVE via Steam for whatever reason on this computer anymore, despite having played it for the past month, as recently as Sunday.

I give up. Please let me know if there are any log files I can post or whatever.

edit: oh sweet, there is an exception thrown. Log file sent in Weird that a full unstall/reinstall wouldn't clear it

Just for giggles, here is the dump log of the exception. Lets see if the collective knowledge of forums eveonline com can complete this ticket.

Had to hack the output to keep the forum from thinking I was embedding HTML. Please let me know if I left my credit card information in place.

Huh. On a lark I manually purged the image cache, and now am able to log on. None of the images looked malicious, neither antivirus nor malware scanners found anything wrong, yet Windows got a real hate on for something in there.

For future reference, it seemed to be a permissions issue:

Quote:
WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied: u'[xxx]/AppData/Local/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_(x86)_steam_steamapps_common_eve_online_tranquility/cache/Browser/Img/1306534331380229736.jpeg'

Clearing the image cache deletes those folders and the new ones would have the appropriate permissions. I'm not sure what would cause that to happen (running Steam as admin, maybe?), but clearing it is indeed the quickest fix.

Thanks. Yeah I have no idea how that might have happened either. I never tried running Steam as admin; only tried running the launcher or exe as admin after the issue cropped up. Glad I was able to naively get to the correct answer (I still have not had a response to my ticket submission)

Its a month old system and I have not mucked around with it at all.
