i am very curious about drones (my skills are getting there with drone v by wednesday) and I am thinking of trying the Vexor...

Thus said, most of my tanking skills are for shields But all the fit I found for the Vexor are armor oriented.

What would be the downside of fitting the Vexor with shield tanks? Not enough caps?

Thanks

Utilities (afterburner, webifier, cap rechargers) go into mid slots. Low slots are typically used for extra power grid, extra CPU, or increased damage via Drone Damage Amplifier (for drones) or Magnetic Field Stabilizer (for hybrid guns). You could do a passive shield tank, with shield extenders, shield resistances, and shield power relays.

Some excellent and well written responses so far.

Consider the vexor an armor tanked ship, there are very good reasons why you cannot find shield tanked fits for them.
In fact the only drones ships in the game that really make good shield tanks are the Rattlesnake(battleship) and the Ishtar(heavy assault cruiser).

Drones are an excellent weapons system for a mission pilot.
With light, medium, heavy and sentry drones there is a size just right for any mission situation.
Ignoring the Gekco which was a limited edition release each drone only shoots one of the four damage types and combined with the different sizes you can easily tailor your damage output to match the needs of each mission.

Will NPC shoot drones?
Yes they will to varying degrees but there are ways to handle that.
When a drone is being shot recall that one to the drones bay to break agro, and to allow time for it's shields to recharge.
Carry at least one armor maintenance bot with you, if drones bay space allows I normally carry 4 lights. Between pockets(rooms) in a mission this allows you to repair your drones damage without having to dock up.
Another option is to put remote armor repair module in a high slot and use that to repair drones, this allows for more bay space to be dedicated to combat drones. Yes I know people that have both remote armor and remote shield repair units and use them to heal drones during the actual fight.

Yes drones are possibly the most skill intensive weapons system in the game. With the flexibility they offer this is to be expected.

This is one of my favorite sources on using droneboats, though it is a bit out of date now.

The Algos is probably my favorite destroyer for low level PvE. As for PvP, the usual reply will stand in the case of droneboats: start with the frigates. The Tristan is the obvious example to start experimenting with because it's the only frigate that can field a full flight of drones, but also consider tossing some skill points into Amarr frigate and tracking disruption to play around with a Crucifier.
