I like to multi box, however, my current set up is limited. I'm losing frame rate and would like to run all clients with high settings. I have a gtx 660 and was wondering if with a multi monitor set-up it would be better to by a gtx 970, or a second 660 and run sli, the second 660 is almost $200 cheaper, but is it the better option?

Read that as, "I'd like to open a can of worms", and you get an idea why not to post stuff like this in GD.

Try the appropriate sub-forum for advice.

In before the move

I would go for the second graphics card but you also have to factor in cpu power as it will contribute to your ability function on mutiple accounts

I used SLI in eve for around 4years and encountered some minor inconveniences when multi-client'ing, for example clients running in super low fps when in fullscreen windowed mode.

I would recommend investing in a Beastly single GPU. i.e. the 970!

This.

I recently swapped from a 660ti to a 970, so much better running multiple clients on max.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Have two cards, SLI enabled currently, but I'm running a single game in full screen mode, so that works well. SLI is about making both cards work on one game. I can force "alternate frame rendering" and both cards get loaded 40% instead of one card being about 70%. Thus they run cooler and the fans on them are quieter.

I don't have a second screen right now, but I know that the EVE client lets you choose which screen to put it on.

If you disable SLI though (from the NVidia control panel), I think EVE lets you choose which graphics card (not just screen) to render each game on, which may give you better frame rates if you run only two games. I used to do this, but it was 4 years ago and I don't know if they kept the option under the Graphics tab in-game.

Each card should have connections for 2 monitors, so with 1 card you should be able to run 2 screens right now. If you get another card, try the non-SLI option and dedicate clients to each card from in-game, see what frame rates you get.

Whatever you do, get the maximum video RAM on the cards (3GB nowadays?, mine have 1.5). For loading up multiple clients, the size of the vram may be more important than the raw speed of the card.

EDIT: I know the load percentages because of EVGA Precision which lets me control the fans and also displays the temperatures and loads LIVE on the keyboard screen.
