Agreed.

Get rid of the freeloaders that use current mechanics for selfish reasons, 10 hour heroes, disposable alts, and the rest of the deadwood that is as far from quality as it gets.

I'm glad you see that CCP is moving in the right direction to make this a better game. Sure, we'll lose a lot of waste of space players but we will have some quality players filling the ranks in player corps that otherwise wouldn't stick with the game.

I hope they aren't. If they are empty threats then the tear bucket is full of fake tears, and those suck.

AWOXing is not hard. It's not hardcore. It's detrimental to the game. Scamming, gaining trust, roles, access to corp hangars and cleaning the suckers dry - that's something that requires skill, patience and it's social engineering at its finest. It's still out there, for people who want to live that lifestyle. Your run of the mill ganking is still there. Don't cry, griefers - be happy. U're gonna have more targets in player corps for your wardecks.

Maybe, just maybe this will solve a couple of trust issues. The biggest problem with this game right now - the absolute lack of trust. And rightfully so, EvE mirrors a real world, and it's a cruel world we're living in. But at least your corporation is supposed to be somewhat reliable, a place where u can share experience/information/gameplay with your comrades without looking over your shoulder all the time. Idk, maybe it's a naive way of looking at things, and obviously AWOXing alone is not the problem, but it's the most common thing that comes to mind when people are being asked - why are you still in your npc corp? Because there are very few benefits in joining a corp in highsec, only negatives that outweigh all the minor benefits that exist. Maybe this is a step in the right direction, idk. Maybe it won't change much. But a 10 hour hero was a thing. Just saying.

Elite:D has 300k players, or that seems to be the estimate on their forums. So my sources aren't all that exact.

However, Elite:D isn't even a game, it's barely the beginning of one; you can undock, fly around in space, and do rudimentary mining, hauling stuff around, and some PVP. Really, its set of features would fit on a floppy disk, compared to EVE's 20GB of complexity.

And they have 300k players.

I would guess most of them play in Solo mode, to avoid "PVP", which at the moment is griefer paradise because the combat does not have enough features to support other kinds of PVP (you can't fleet up, you can't even chat with anyone who's not in target range, there are no features basically).

Be proud of EVE's 10 years, but it didn't survive because of your "different breed of gamer" efforts, it survived because of CCP's efforts to keep the game going, patch it, and evolve it. And after 10 years it still has 500k players, when a non-game like Elite:D manages to get 300k in the first month.

There's nothing stopping someone from playing both games, too, and many people do. There are names I recognize from here in Elite:D, and a serious hatred of Goons, which could only come from players of this game.

Really?Never heard of it Will check it out though always looking for the next cutting edge game do The y have Awoxing?

Elite:D is a really pretty space flight simulator with guns and occasionally other players. In terms of gameplay, it is shallow...so shallow you would not wet your toenails wading through it.

Someday, it might turn into an MMO. I kind of hope it does.

The real irony of this is the people who actually think that EVE will somehow be able to pull subscriptions away from a contemporary game based on changes that sacrifice core principles of the game.

They're ignoring something fairly important. Just based on it's game mechanics, EVE is not really that much fun. A good example is the absolutely medieval movement mechanics. It's absolutely nothing compared to Elite: Dangerous, for example. It is the depth of player freedom and the scope of player interaction that makes this game something more than just some trash F2P/P2W glorified single player game like STO, for example.

If CCP thinks that selling the soul of the game will keep it afloat once actual competition pops up, they're wrong. The game is just too far behind at this point, they have a development debt that they will never pay off from Incarna, and their ability to actually make significant changes to the game engine is long since lost.

But chasing the flash-in-the-pan casual players? A hopeless endeavor entirely. That kind of "player" is only interested in what is new and shiny. They're the people who keep feeding companies like EA and SoE despite literally being shat upon year after year in terms of quality. They play for a little while, they move on to the next "new, shiny!", and sell their old copy to Gamestop. Does anyone here really think that demographic will give a flying rat's ass about EVE, no matter how much you mangle it into something unrecognizable?

In the forums of olde C&P had "Pirate story" threads. The new forums here have one from 2011. But there are much older stories.

Long ago I read them and as I went down the timeline the stories slowly changed. The stories of olde were about many great capers, plots, and dumb luck. They were the sort where the victims thought they were getting one over or getting an upper hand but by conspiracy or hook and crook, they were wrong. But they were experienced enough to know better and took the risks. A good time was had by all.

But the change was noticeable in that the stories evolved over the years to sound like this:
- see someone in ship
- convo victim
- become friends
- invite to corp
- AWOX or lure to lowsec and AWOX (for some reason or if there was no corp involved, fleet then)
- if Corp involved, take all of the victims stuff too, if possible
- enjoy the tears, point and laugh, profit? (no, brag that they had nothing to take or if they did, brag that you did not need it but took it anyway for the lols)

That's a kind of degeneration in the player base over the years. It's of no great surprise that AWOXing was abused, and now it's no more. I warned people. Nobody listened. They wanted tears, and now there's tears alright.

Cool story bro, but awoxing isn't going away. All of those things can still occur, every one of them, if the awoxer runs the corp. The only thing that has been put up for change is that corps will have the ability to turn on/off concord response to members shooting each other. Not players, corps.

It's almost as if you're saying that in order to have the game we want, we must not play it the way we want to play it.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

The really funny part is that literally exactly what he's crying about will become vastly more commonplace now.

Every time they tighten their grip, it fails to have the "gud fites" result that the space samurai want to pigeonhole people into. And they wring their hands and start over with a new "just one more nerf". All the while failing to realize that the one who is really devolving this game... is him.

There were only three nerfs left, and awoxing is one of them. Two left after this. Then they won't ever have to nerf anything ever again.

another cool story

You mean like the standard gank-bear answer of HTFU?? yeah, both have the same validity. As I said before - can I have your stuff?

No, they don't.

"you got ganked, this is a PvP game, deal with it" is a lot different from "we're going to remove your entire playstyle by fiat".
