I was wondering if there was a somewhat basic overview of what you should be trying to fight in solo pvp based on what ship you are flying. I have seen the Altruist article and that is very well done, however its so much info I cannot use it on the fly. Would there be a guide detailing the particular ship you want to fly? Example being a dual rep incursus or a rail comet? Even if it is basic like stay away from kitey, or energy vamp.

Thanks

You don.t rly need a guide, just know the limitations of your ship afterwards you know what you can or cannot fight.

Besides there isnt rly a good way to make such a guide because there are variables to it and fights differ from situation to situation.

Ex: Your incursus, dual rep blaster fit , ab scram cap booster vs your avarage kiter

Normaly the kiter should win, but it depends if you can tank it long enough for some form of help OR if you can catch him before he gets range you win .

Every fight is situational based on position and pilot skill not just what your flying, yes it helps alot to knkw your ship and your opponents ship but remember, this is eve not Mortal Kombat , if your smart enough you can win even when the odds are againts you.

Just because i am blond does not make me stoopid !

The EvE Altruist wrote some good guides a few years back. Some of the ship stats are out of date, but the core mechanics remain.

I wear my goggles at night.

Any spelling/grammatical errors come complimentary with my typing on a phone

Examine common fits for ships in EFT/pyfa, that tells you their speed, resists holes, damage and range, drone bays, what kind of slot layouts etc etc they could have.

With the amount of different ships and possible fits, it's a vast mass of information to digest, but start for example with the ships in your chosen ship class and examine them.

Unfortunately there really isn't a fastlane to PVP experience in EVE as far as I know.

This might be of interest Frigates

It covers the Amarr Executioner and goes into all the other frigates iirc, detailing how to fight them, why, and which will give you an easy or tough fight........and which to avoid in that ship.

Although its about the Executioner, its useful as it covers how other frigates are usuallly fit.

Solo Pvp is not very friendly to the inexperienced, for that simple reason. Lack of a solid knowledge of all the ship models, racial weapon properties and the possible fits you may come across.

First step is to know what your own ship can do. These factors are crucial:
1- what range do you want to engage from; close and personal brawling, or fast agile long rage kite. Choose weapons accordingly.
2-can you dictate the range? another way to put it is- what is my speed, and what is my dependance on a certain propulsion module; what ewar am I fielding? (speed and damage application restriction)
3-what kind of tank do I want - shield/armor/hull- active/passive buffer (mostly relies on your ship's slot allocation and eventual tank bonus)

When considering when to engage, you need to know what you're engaging. Learn all the most common combat frigates and destroyers bonuses, weapon types and properties.

My personal advice? Look for a while at the combat frigates, and choose one, or two. Buy a few dozen of the model and stack them in a lowsec station. Fit them properly. Go out and have much fun while learning along the way.
