Graphics , no cockpit ...ok so.....what about windows and crew?

About windows:
1) micro shadows would only look good with those 4k textures that are in the works, not with the current textures
2) ships could have 2 modes
a) base mode - when there is no combat going on in the grid. No combat -> some free graphical resources ->
whict could be used for:
- particle effects/small drones that fix cosmetic damage on the ship from battles
- opened windows (like now) with small dots moving
b) battle mode - a battle is happening in the grid or someone has locked you or attacked you
- windows are covered by e.g. tungsten carbide armor plates which will result black (amarr), metalic(caldari) etc. windows
- the armor over the windows would solve the lore problem that is in this thread
- the effects would be turned off and the GPU processing power would be used for the combat

Abut stations:
1) some kind of plaza/bar inside the stations would be good where the players can chat and drink some Quafe Big smile
2) it would give more content possibilities like card games between players or a virtual version of the Danger game Roll
3) ability to run with the character (the ability to walk only is frustrating that keeps me from using the personal quarters)
4) more life in the hangar (low poly people, cars, small ships, particle effects of repairs, drones with the cargo you moved to/from your ship flying around, drones for ship refuel etc.)
5) information center where the mission agents would be sitting (optional)
6) ability to break in into others personal quarters to get intel, player location etc. (would be a cool addition for bounty hunters), with a very high risk of unsuccessfull door hack -> concord/security catches the hacker and he pays a compensation for the player which he tried to hack. If the hacker does not have the money, the fee be forced upon him everytime he enters hi-sec

To devs:
1) Is it too GPU intensive with the current models to render multiple player characters at the same time (like 30-50 on a plaza)?
2) I love EVE, but really, this game needs more life and interaction, especially for new players

Why? Because you've never seen a Gallente or Minmatar station with transparent sections hundreds of meters or even kilometers across in at least one dimension?

It's already well established that there is at least one kind of transparent handwavium able to be manufactured in vast quantities, with a structural integrity that exceeds anything we're familiar with. Why couldn't you make windows out of it?

****! handwavium and unobtonium, you got me there Blink. that being said from an aesthetic point of view I prefer to think of a ship not only as an extension of a capsuleers but as it's body of it self....... the cyberpunkery in this game is way too good.

BTW never entered the captains quarters. why would I ever not be a spaceship in EVEBig smile

Where is the burden of proof required? How can I possibly prove or disprove that imaginary ships can or cannot have windows capable of surviving massive firepower in much the same way as the rest of the ship?

It's not a question of can or can't, its a question of are windows dumb on a spaceship. save for a few small portholes (with shutters) for the astrogator and docking ports. The answer is yes,... very.

No utility, structural compromise, mass penalty, extra cost, radiation shielding compromise, no utility.

granted all ships in EVE are essentially spaceballs, So whether or not these ships are rendered with or with out them is unimportant. that being said I do like it when a space game characterizes space as it's own medium instead of making it as familiar as possible.

Humans always try to make things as familiar as possible though, its natural for us to add windows and such wherever physically possible as it helps our sanity. Not such a concern for the goo coated lunatic in the pilots pod but the crew could really do with maintaining at least a semblence of normality in their existence. They're only human after all, poor things...

Imagine you were building a real spaceship: What kind of monster would you need to be NOT to add windows?

How about the monster that builds space stations with no windows What?

heheheehehe right !

In response to the "lifeless world" thread linked above by Debora.....I've always thought it would be cool if there were higher resolution textures to support more detailed planets, so that some "landmark stations" (like Jita, Amarr, starter systems, etc.) could be much closer to the planet's surface without reducing the visual clarity that planets currently have.

Something like this where the station is in a very low orbit (although maybe not quiiiiite this close).

Of course, this would likely have to apply to a small number of select systems because it would probably be a huge load to do everywhere. But it would add some really cool visual effects and make the game feel much more alive. At the moment every planet feels kind of....the same.

that's another intersting point ,
stations are always too far from planet , so you always got this feeling that planet standing at your side , is just another
dead object in the space ,

there no ships going in & out the planet surface , no satelite , no nothing ,
even when you are standing aside a big ancient Capital Planet ,
it just seems abbandoned ......

ok i understand that
you guys do not want a cockpit

....so i would like to view my crew ( even little animations) moving around the deck of my frigate when i zoom in ....fact is that ships from space look "dead pieces of iron" , with some exception
an example: it's too difficult to put a rotating radar above the capital ships roofs (tecnically speaking ? something that make me " belive "is for real?

i'm not asking too much ....it's 2015 after all....

BTW i liked a lot the new rendering method , it's about time ,
glad to see the game evolving from a graphic side too ^^

Wait, what?

How would you see your crew moving about while looking at your ship?

how do you manuver your ship in a fight and checking the market at the same time???

pls c'mon.....
