Quite possibly the most unethical thing I've ever encountered in Eve

So my corp's MO is that we use Thera as a base of operations and scout out occupied wormholes. We do a survey of the residence, make sure there's something of value in the wormhole, and that they're doing pve. Then we start long term guerrilla war with the intent of pushing them to pay a ransom. People are generally skeptical of this of course thinking we'll move on after a day or two only to be dismayed when we remain there much longer.

We don't go straight for the throat. We'll hit ratters, we'll start poking at the pocos, we'll camp the exists, run their sites, start pushing on their poses etc. Sometimes we'll even throw a wardec on and work with friends to ensure that even if they leave their wormhole, they won't be able to just "wait it out." For us it isn't about "griefing" and although the ransom generally requires some exchange of assets or isk, it isn't really about the money either. But I digress.

So one of our recent targets has opted to form an alt corp and move most of their members to said alt corp. Of course having the talented membership that I am honored to have, all their members had already been added onto our watchlist so it was fairly soon that we realized our target's tactic. The CEO of the "main corp" plays hardball during negotiations claiming that he doesn't care about what we do to him or his last remaining tower in the wormhole. So since he is so unconcerned with his well being, we decided to hit the alt corp housing his members.

What followed next was unexpected. Really rather cringe-worthy.

This was all fun and games until I saw the news out of France this morning. I wanted to puke... Now my game and my real world get mixed up. That sucks. I recieved good advice and help from other corps in my area on how to manipulate some things but I am going to just stay put and cope with this new dimension to my game. I play in spurts so sooner or later my account will lapse anyways. Stand tall, tighten the vice, no matter. there were no other solutions and after seeing that attack on the news station in France and listening to the players that live there I am quite beside myself. Please keep the wardec on indefinately - it will just be an added layer to my game...
Peace... Ian

So from my understanding, this individual wishes to use the recent tragedy in the news to garner some sort of pity over a video game? That's pretty ****** up.

Further proof that some people cannot differentiate game violence from real violence.

Tyler asks why would you bother to post this?

Likely because you were awestruck after reading an evemail like that. To think that someone would associate loosing a few space pixels with a real life attack where actual lives were taken suggests a serious disorder. Im no doctor, but thats ****** up.

See you in the chain, Seraph.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, when something bad like this happen it's brought up ingame as well, sometimes in painfull and disrespectfull ways because people in the internet can be terrible. Least you can do is mail him back a compassionate word, and keep shooting his alt corp off course.

OP wins war over wormhole, target mentions some attack in frog land, and OP gets offended. Sorry, why would anyone care if you won and got offended? Either take the victory or just walk away crying while giving everything back to the guy you defeated. Life is life, we cannot control it and if something is affecting someone....oh well, nothing you can change about it so long as you are not a d-bag about it.

All he wanted was the universe to know how offended he was. It doesnt matter if anyone cared, he still wanted people to know about it.

I wouldn't be sure how to take that..

My knee-jerk reaction was "did he just call you a terrorist and compare what you did to that massacre in France?", but then as you look at it more and think about it, You think "Is he just saying this to illicit sympathy in hopes youll drop the hostility, and just in case not he will add in that 'didn't care about that wardec anyway' type line just for reasons?".

I mean.. either way its pretty ****** up, and if it ends up being the first thing.. a softer, more tender feelinged person would drop a support ticket on his *** for even making that type of comment.

Because as elevation increases, so does the perceived intelligence of lonely old men with long beards.

Must be a slow day in New Eden for you to post this.
You're making mountains out of molehills due to your lack of reading comprehension - intended or otherwise.
All his message actually says is 'I have more important things to think about than you or your wardec. Good luck, have fun o7"
You seem to have more of a problem with this whole (in-game) turn of events than your intended victim.
None of this is unethical or ****** up; it doesn't even register on either scale. What bubble do you live in?

No. You were spot on. The guy says "now my game world and real world are mixed up". No part of that statement doesn't scream " commit me".
