Space is huge !

This reminds me of how I tried teaching kids on the true scale of the solarsystem (planets/distances to scale) a long time ago. It took some time, but it was great when they finally grasped how tiny planets & the sun are related to space.

I feel this fits with the thread: Carl Sagan talking about mankind living on a 'pale blue dot' in space

Brilliant! I once tried to make a timeline of human history, using beads and hemp twine. One bead for when Homo Sapiens emerged, then another distant one for when they appeared in the Americas, then one for when Egyptian civilization appeared, etc. on to the modern world. The idea was to run it along the intersection of the walls and ceilings of my brother's book shop.

It didn't work, the beads were too wide for my scale of twine distance. From Rome to even the Air Age turned into 5 beads pile on each other in a knot at the extreme end. I suppose I could have tripled the scale and wound it around the shop three times, but, bah.
