If you look around on the EVE Uni Wiki / EVE Wiki there are some useful tips on starting off and specific careers as well as fitting Amarrian ships and

If you're going Amarr, I believe you'll be fitting your ships mainly with Lasers and armour tanking modules. Unfortunately, I play Gallente so I can't give you specific advice on fits, though feel free to open up a convo with me in game and ask me any other questions you would like answered.

If you're wondering what kind of skills to train, it really depends on the career you want to settle with and what hobbies you want to embark on.

If you're looking for combat, a good skill set to progress through for Amarr (As well as Gallente and Minmatar as they both benefit greatly from these bonuses) fits are the gunnery skills and the different armour skills.

Other non-specific skill sets that are quite useful are the Navigation skills, the Electronic and Engineering skills (Which boost CPU, power grid and capacitor), the Targeting skills and the Drone skills just to name a few.

There are, whether fortunately or unfortunately, a very large number of skills available that can be useful depending on circumstances, though a few that might be commonly handy are:
Salvaging (IV or V is best, though don't rush this if you don't need to, of course)
Trade to IV and subsequently the skills "Broker Relations" and "Accounting" (They come in handy when selling items is your main form of income)
Social to IV and subsequently "Connections" (I recommend at least to 3) and "Fast Talking" (Again, to 3) to help with relations when doing missions and 'farming' for a jump clone
Cybernetics to at least II for implants (You can train higher if you want, though I don't bother because I'm poor)

DISCLAIMER: I'm an idiot, I don't take responsibility for any of my idiocy because I am still an idiot. ^_^

Though my advice may not be the best ever advice and people can probably add a large amount of information to what I've already said, I know this to be true: It doesn't matter your skills, your wallet size, or your reputation, make sure you're having fun in EVE, otherwise you'll become bored and drop it fairly quickly. (It should be obvious, but apparently it isn't (I'm looking at you, Blake Lowe))

The Eve University Wiki is highly recommended as your "go to" place for information, especially on ship fits when you are a new player. Just ask in one of the help channels and someone will link it for you.

It's useful for shipfits if you aren't sure where to start. Just enter a ship name e.g. any of the Amarr frigates in the search and pull up the details for that ship. For most ships you will be presented with several different fittings that might be labelled e.g. PVE low skill, PVE higher skill, PvP low skill, etc.

Amarr ships a glorious (obviously) but whilst the other races ships are clearly inferior as they lack ivory and gold,
some of the roles their ships fulfill shouldn't be overlooked.

I Would advise that you train all the races weapons systems (drones in particular) and ships to some degree as you may be surprised as to what may grow on you.

Personally I always hated the inkursus but as soon as I started flying its t2 variant the ishkur I fell in love with it and now it's one of my favorites.

Eve University also has a public Help channel, which is very good and well moderated (in other words, they make sure the idiots and trolls are "taken care of"). Lots of helpful veterans hang out there, along with some of the staff from Eve Uni.

And their wiki is quite good. ArrowEve Uni wiki. The search feature is quite good.

The channel is called "E-UNI" and you can find it on your chat channels list window, right under the English Help channel.

They also hold public classes and they invite any and all to get on their voice comms (they use Mumble). If you register with their forums you can get on their "private" Mumble and hang out with them and learn lots, even get in on some activities.

This is extremely good advice. These will set you up with a number of free skillbooks, ships, and a handful of useful modules, as well as ISK.

One thing to know about Eve Online, there is no "best" since "the best" of anything often depends on how your skilled, your personal experience, what you're planning on doing with ship, your resources, etc. You'll find the answer of "it depends" is common but don't take that as a brush-off. And the right answer for one situation isn't going to be the right answer for another.

Never compare Eve Online to other MMOs you may have experienced. And don't try and go-it-alone, but be cautious of everyone Cool. And don't push-off sound advice just because you don't like the answer Blink.

Most of all, Eve is a sandbox which means what ever you want to do, no matter how good or fail at it you may be, it's up to you, and no one else. Welcome, and have fun!

Why are you playing Eve?

Nobody can help you unless you identify the direction you are going in already (you're playing Eve - so you took that first step - some people I talk to want me to hand it to them on a silver platter before they do the trial).

Amarr ships are pretty, yes. As long as they stay in the stations. When they are outside of the station they can become war machines. Very deadly, causing huge amounts of drama and stress on other players.

Amarr FW right now is kicking butt. Amarr frigates are small pretty objects that unleash angry sizzling amounts of laser damage. Amarr frigates at level 5 along with support skills would be awesome.

But then I fly rifters at level 5 so I don't need Amarr frigates.

I will look for you on the battlefields!!

Hello.

I am new to EVE.

I'm not sure what ship I should be in to start. I don't even know what career direction I should be taking. I wonder if anyone can suggest who I might talk to to get a better feel for where I'm to go from here? Perhaps a link to a new player website or chat channel?

The only thing I'm really sure about right now is that I like the look of the Amarr ships. I believe I will start there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

They did help you out there though. Take it as a learning lesson.
Trust is most valued commodity in EvE.

So take things with a grain of salt at all times and just have fun with what ever you do. Best way to play.

Now however, to better facilitate your line of questioning the askance of what do you wish to do is relevant.

Do you like to build stuff?
Do like being the guy that equips a group before a fight?
Do you like being the person that makes sure goods get from point A to point B safely and quickly?
Do you like to fight for an ideal?
Do you like instances/dungeon style play? (missioning)
Do you like hunting bad guys? or just for profit?
Do you enjoy ruining someone elses day just because you can and still profit from it?

and the list goes on and on........
Till you have an idea about yourself....no one can fully assist you in anything....becaue they dont know what you want or asking....or how to utilize you and still give you something fun to do.

Umm 9 out of 11 responses here were definitely trying to help you.

You'll find you will get some responses that aren't the best. Just filter those out and pay them no mind. One thing in Eve is that if you respond to certain things you'll simply feed the trolls.

Only J'Poll and Epeen's responses could be considered 'Assholish', and even then, Epeen did make a valid point (Albeit through sarcasm).

Either way, it's something you'll have to get used to in EVE; every now and again you'll come across someone who is less than pleasant to deal with.

Assholes? You ain't seen nothing yet! Wait untill you know what to fly, how to fit and what to do... and then die unceremonially in 5 seconds flat because the real assholes were lying in wait to murder the smacktalker.Blink

That being said, Eve has no set goal. It has people, and it's interesting to see what they do with the sandbox. Observe, find your niche, get good at it, and enjoy your time playing. The last part is most important. I know a great deal of loose cannons that just play Eve without predefined goals, or are happy the corp has goals which create content (read: make PVP happen) as we go along.

My goal in Eve is to surround myself with friends, have a place to call "home", and a few assets to our collective name worth fighting over. I enjoy the emergent, small gang lowsec PVP that comes with the territory, but also the rush of catching freighters and capitals in transit, or sieging so hard it draws 3rd parties into a fight with each other trying to drop us, is highly enjoyable. I also enjoy PVE with the danger of getting caught, or the option of catching an unwary ratter yourself. Hunting PVE Tengus for their shiny mods (and to steal their sites) is also fun. Basicly, I enjoy lowsec life, and don't make matters more complex then just doing **** in lowsec.

I even build stuff nowadays! Pirate ships. And I might do some industrial stuff with rigs soon, just because I have the skills and it would save me lots of ISK over time.
