In the interest of additional help for solo roamers, we could perhaps create a "Scout Probe" deployable, which you can deply from within 2000 metres of a stargate. The probe will take a ride through the stargate and either instantly return a vague scout result (number of ships on grid/hull types whatever) or it could burn back to gate at high speed and have a tiny signature so it could be shot, but with difficulty.

If search function didn't return pages full of rubbish on deployable structures... sure...

This is called an Interceptor.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

So you think every solo pilot should fly an interceptor?

Have a heart for hard working pirates and scrap that idea Blink

As a lore-matching counterargument: Radiowaves (or other forms of communications, don't know what's used in the eve universe) don't use Stargates. So you would have to wait hours / weeks / years untils you get a signal from the probe to your location.

I am a hard working pirate lol, but I do feel for the poor solo lads that don't have an alt for everything.

P.s you would only get the probe results if it returned in one piece., a bit like the scout thingies from the TV Show stargate.

Who knew? If you insist on playing Eve solo, because you think that makes you a badass, you realize that all your whining about how hard it is to fly solo make you sound like less of a badass? Flying solo is hard primarily because you cannot scout ahead.

Additionally, the in game map already gives you pretty good Intel on what is going on in your area (particularly if you track historical data by timezones). You should have a pretty good idea when and where gate camps will be located.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

"guess what flying solo has draw backs"

Well done Sherlock.

scouting one gate is a bit different to knowing how many active pilots were somewhere 30 minutes ago, plus I think there should be less information on the in-game map anyways.

What I want to see is more solo pilots, but there are several things holding them back. This being one I think

One would almost assume such a thing would originate from the Gallente since they like automation.

While it doesn't tell you precisely what you want to know about the next system, this already exists in game using the map features to filter out number of pilots in space. It sure doesn't tell you what is immediately on the other side, but there is already some intel available.

There are better ways to handle it, however: Instead of some probe you can hack the gate to get a report of what is on grid at the destination. You know how those queuing reports can be. A failed hack turns the gate guns on your ship and immediately flags you suspect and sets the 60 second aggression timer on you so that you won't be able to jump through to compensate for gates where there are no gate guns.

It might even cause the other gate to "ping" possibly alerting anyone on the other side that someone just hacked the gate - successful or not.

There are lots of interesting things that can be done. But... is it necessary and does it add more to the game by increasing co-operation and conflict?

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.
