Crucible Mac Crash Thread

I think another issue with getting the crashes fixed is its not Mac users that have the problem, its a small number of Mac users. I for the most part have no problem. I go for days, even weeks, without a crash or lockup. The crash problem is thus affecting a small part of a small part of the player base. I have seen CCP move rather fast when an issue crops up that effects every Mac user. Even seen them run Sisi tests focused on Mac user problems.

But now we got what seems to be a really hard problem to find, effecting a subset of Mac users, which themselves are a subset of all users. The result seems to be little visibility to CCP.

Any word on if EVE Online: Crucible 1.2.1 that was deployed on 2/21 fixes the crash issues on the Mac? I installed Eve Online yesterday for the first time on a new Mac and I wasn't even able to get it to start at all. I'm hoping that this newest release will fix the issue.
At least in the mean time I was able to install a Windows copy on the Boot Camp partition and play that way.

Well, it is a weird problem this. I bought a new iMac 21,5" (cheapest configuration) and I was planning on installing Windows for the first time on a Mac since I had given up. But... funny thing. It works flawless on this new Mac!

That seems to support my idea that the Mac client does work, its just overly sensitive to any issues. The result is a few users who have some issue with their hardware, installation, other running apps or internet, an issue which a well written app would handle with ease, get crash after crash.

I'll go with my description of the Mac client: Its a delicate glass flower that shatters with the slightest touch while at the same time being a huge lumbering oaf that stomps all over memory it should never touch.

P.S. Ive only run 1.2.1 for an hour, but got no crash. During the same period someone else in corp on a PC did have an issue requiring a re-log.

Mac client won't even launch for me. Reinstall does not fix the issue.

It would help if people posted specs. There are a lot of Macs out there in a lot of configurations. From what I can gather, Macs running Intel GPUs (e.g., MacBooks) have had it especially rough recently.

Crucible 1.2 runs rock-solid on my 2008 24" iMac (Core 2 EXTREME!!!!!1, 2GB RAM, ATI *mumble* GPU, OS X 10.7, up to date). It is the first EVE client to not crash regularly since I joined up near the tail end of Incarna, last fall.

I got a MBP with an Intel core i7 and its doing fine. I did get a CTD last night, but I was trying to run 3 clients at once, one warping to a gate, one logging in, one downloading the latest patch, and... well.. the one warping to the gate decided it was all too much and crashed. I re-logged that one and got 2 hours on line time last night, all 3 clients running, and another hour today with further no issues.

Before the 1.2.1, that is with 1.2, I had 3 CTDs. Before 1.2 it was about one crash a week.

When playing Eve the only other thing I have up that access the internet (and its not up all the time) is Firefox.

I succeeded in getting another CTD with no error message. Its almost getting repeatable. What I do is log in my Jita alt, quickly undock the freighter, warp to my safe spot, then warp to a gate. While the ship is spooling up and warping I start web surfing on Firefox, opening up a group of tabs. About the time the ship arrives at the gate I get a CTD.

Its happened 3 times this exact same way. If I sit docked for a few minutes first, I do not get the crash.

EVE freezes every 10-20 min for me with the Mac client. Doesn't matter if the window is active or not (I play in windowed mode). The music will start skipping like a broken record when it freezes. Does not matter what I do in the game. My hardware is an early 2011 MBP with the ATI 6750M.

Did all the usual stuff, re-download the client, clear my caches, reboot, turn all the settings down to the lowest, but it still occurs.

Submitted a bug report in exactly the format Konflikt requested.

Occasionally having the same sudden "client hang requiring force close" problem as a few other people. Specs:

OSX 10.6.8
2006 MacPro, dual-quad
6Gb memory
ATI 5770

For me this is a fairly specific problem. It mostly happens when flying in or out of Jita. I can't be certain of this, but it appears to happen at the point in time where the Overview has to update the mass of ships surrounding Jita 4-4. The one time I clearly caught it happening, I was warping from 4-4 to Perimeter gate, and the hang occurred right at the moment when the Overview should erase the mass of ships at 4-4 and just display stations & gates.

The hang isn't entirely repeatable... however, if the problem is a bug in the new Overview code, it would be dependent on ship traffic conditions in the area. Given that we just saw an overhaul of the Overview code, I'd be looking there first...

We did a roam today in our corp and I would crash at random. Sometimes I could play for fourty-five minutes, sometimes hardly ten. Sometimes the game would completely crash and exit out and everything, other times the voice chat and everything would disconnect and things would stop moving. Oddly, though, sometimes everything except the voice would disconnect, where everyone would stop moving etc, but I could listen to the voice all I wanted to.

It was really rather annoying having to restart and join fleet and catch up to wherever they were. This client has had problems in the past with crashing, but today it was awful, even after the roam was over and I was back to my normal eve life.

I'm running:

Macbook Pro 15"
OSX Lion (10.7.2)
4GB memory
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

I use to be able to run this game on full graphics and everything, everything was always smooth etc., but I've turned everything down to the lowest settings in case that was the issue, but it doesn't seem to be.

Thanks in advance for all help.

EDIT: I have tried the cache clean out thing, it changed nothing.

Hi

I am experiencing the "space and overview does not load" problem when mostly in fleet and having just jumped though a gate or Titan bridge. I usually just quit and log in again ASAP, to avoid getting behind the fleet or getting killed.

Question: Is my client really crashed?, because when this happens, local chat and any other chat window is updating just fine, and I can even see fleet warp notifications when the "space and overview does not load" problem happens. I just dont see the space environment, overview is empty and I can not right click in space to get any of the action menus.

Question: Is my client waiting for something, if so how long must I wait?

Like almost every Mac user here I have turned down, tweaked down and massaged any and all settings that makes EVE nice visually just to survive and just in-case I have my dreaded "space and overview does not load" problem.

Ive only had this issue on Sisi mass tests, as it requires many people jumping through at once to trigger it. ( I wonder if you jump 5 or 10 seconds late....?) When I had it and while I was waiting to see if the grid would load, I was caught up in a fleet warp: When I relogged I was at the location the fleet warped to, not at the gate. Another time I tried double clicking in space, waited, and relogged. My ship did end up 100 km from the gate after e-warping back, so I must have been moving despite not seeing the grid load.

So yes, I think you are still there, in space, and you can move. If a fleet warp is going to be done, relog during the warp (You still get the fleet warp notification). You might get back on before the warp ends and avoid the e-warp.

We all might as well just get windows in bootcamp. The mac client issue will never get fixed to a stable point, if it was going to be, then they would have told us.

Until about a year never had issues.. Re-installing the client on another account should refresh things
