Aura voice tutorial for starter missions

You need to get Caroline Dalton on staff to voice a comprehensive set of co-pilot type instructions for newbie tutorial missions, but also all of the information on any item in EVE.

I think the newbie tutorials are most important, to hand-hold new players who don't know wtf. Not only is EVE's gameplay abstract outside of PVE, the UI is also very sparse in terms of instruction and what to do next.

Further narrations to supplement "show info" text is just a quality of life / quality of product improvement, and a huge one. If I had the option of having Aura talk in my ear it would just be -quality-, don't know how else to put it.

A lot in EVE is confusing, and you can't be there to hold players by the hand... but Aura can.

I remember reading somewhere that they wanted to get voice acting in the tutorial and other things, but the logistics would be a killer. A drifferent dub for each language, then they eould havevto redub it every time they changed anything. Easier to keep it as text, as much as i agree that it would be awesome.

It's not so crazy to think a voice staffer should be on hand for each language, considering how much quality it brings to the game. I rank it up there with Art, and the visuals [beyond the bare minimums].

There are ways to get voice actors to record sounds that can be constructed to make words. This is the way that most cartoon sitcoms are currently made. Mel Blanc died in 1989, yet Bugs Bunny's voice hasn't changed. It's also the way the recording for the Mass Transit Automated Information and Telephone Automated Operator have been made.

Sure the voices sound a little mechanical when using some words.. but I think that suits Aura just fine. (might not be cost effective though, considering how rarely this stuff is updated)

Normally I would consider such a big suggestion downright silly, but the reason I'm making this one is the attention CCP has given, and continues to give NPE.

I also think Aura should be a holographic figure who follows you around CQ.

Like a vanity pet?

I think people would buy that. Kinda Blade Runner-ish though.

That would require CCP to think in industry standard, innotative and creative ways with how their players interact with a game world!

Oh, and for them to spend money.

But do enough people read the text or pay attention to the game for that to be worthwhile? It's not really relevant when everything is demonstrated visually rather than audiologically. Might make it a bit more interesting and may be implemented if you could run around as your capsuleer or another linked character to partake in action-adventure style gameplay.

When I first started playing EVE in 2010, the number 1 thing I remember about my experience as a new player, was wishing there was an audio play of all the text I had to read.

My first few months of EVE, were on a new custom built pc, except I didnt have a monitor back then. I played on my 50"tv from my couch. I was in transition from console gaming to pc.

Anyways, having to read all the text of the tutorials was a pain. Especially until I found the text resize option in the settings.

I believe the new player experience of the tutorials definitely needs a voice over with option to pause and replay. This can help keep the players eyes focused on the game and less on reading walls of text.

I believe this was asked either during Fanfest or eve Vegas.
As others mentioned, re-recording everything every time something changes, is not something they like, so currently they are keeping an eye out for proper reading out loud software that can do it in a proper eve voice, so they don't have to record it again

I'd personally like to hear Claudia Black as Aura.

She's sultry... I could agree with that.

Assuming it can be done, I guess the question is does EVE have room for this thing, with a story-driven game feel.

Of course it does. Aura already speaks to the pilot at various times in game. There should be more. Especially in the early stages of a player's life in EVE.

I've always been in favor of more immersion in EVE.

After watching 3 separate friends trial Eve and backseating them while they went through the NPE each got stopped in what I would consider really easy problems (where's the undock button/ where is your item hanger window/ how do I jump through a gate etc).

Perhaps a 'ghosting' mouse or something would work as a substitute to voice instructions. Simply put, if I wasnt there all 3 would have quit rather than push on through the NPE, even though 2 were full time gamers who where simply hit with a wall of text and just wanted to understand in simple terms what they were meant to be doing. The wall of text killed it for them.

I was thinking that flashing indicators would go well with voice instruction.
