When a character is blocked, they're blocked by characterID.

For instance, if you were to block CCP Falcon, you wouldn't be blocking "CCP Falcon" you'd be blocking the characterID "92532650".

If I changed my name to CCP Rook (which I would never do, because Rooks are poopy and completely inferior), then I'd still be blocked. Character name doesn't matter.

Just the same as if we change someone's character name because it's offensive, they'll still remain in your contact list under their new character name.

Hope this helps. Smile

by using that logic, it would be possible for character name changes being not that difficult if it were offered as a service. I assume all references are by character ID in game with the exception being searches and player made links (in chat where you highlight it and do that right click thing). I don't intend to say it would be an easy task, but for 2 plexs i think it would be manageable. however if somethign like this were to be implimented, there should be a new tab for character info called "Aliases" listing old names and the times they were held like corp history.

This has been a hotly debated topic among the community, and internally at CCP, for roughly the last decade. P

Just provide us with an alias list (e.g. steam) on character info like the employment history and allow for player searches to include these past aliases and the current name in parenthesis.

CCP Falcon,

So reading the bigger picture there are a few oddities remaining.

1) Dominique Vasilkovsky: [an older name I want to use] ..still seems to exist in game ... was subbed for 1 month in 2003

So how can this old name still be unavailable if they've all been purged from the DB ?

2) Arisidana: One of my biomassed characters is still there, hasn't been picked up in almost 2 years.

I could see why "inactive" players you would never want to purge, but a biomassed character and inactive for "X" period, those should be okay to purge as well. There just seems to be a opportunity for a lot of wasted DB resources to me. IMHO.

I imagine it's basically cos they're only doing "trial" accounts that never went live. People in that position have not invested any money into their game experience. I was unsubbed for a period of roughly 5 years, I was quite glad all my stuff was intact after that time! Your first example is a little more extreme but there would have to be a line drawn somewhere if they wanted to do long inactive/short subscribed time names, the way they have done it was a nice clear cut. Biomassed chars is a different issue, not sure what the deal is there.
