Mom's and Titans i.e. super caps you will not be able to build on your own. In theory it might be possible to do it yourself but it just won't happen for reasons I'll not get into here but since they can't dock anyway you really should not be looking to build those by yourself.

As far as building caps from your own minerals if you want to do it on a one off basis just get a BPC pack from contracts. Then go somewhere and mine and build until you are done that's pretty much it.

If you want to start cap production for sale and profit you will have a very difficult time doing that yourself on any kind of volume. You could however buy BPC packs from contracts like I've stated and do like I said for person use then just repeat that every once in a while. Totally doable by one character on an occasional basis.

If you want to do production line cap ship manufacturing and make multiple units per month you will need to buy minerals or ore at some point.

Just FYI building cap ships from BPOs requires double digit Billions of isk worth of BPOs.

Which ever way you plan on going if you just want to get your feet wet and see how it goes just buy a BPC pack and build one. You will figure it out and then know what is needed to ramp stuff up.
