Are steam accounts eligible for buddy program rewards?

I wanted to invite some friends from my previous mmo, figured I'd throw them a buddy invite but my account is on steam and I can't remember if steam accounts are eligible for buddy program rewards. My friends will most likely upgrade their account with paypal and won't be using steam. Also can they use paypal to upgrade/subscribe their trial accounts?

Sadly I'm not sure how it works with a steam account, about all I know is what I've heard in that having a Eve Steam account is the worst possible way to play Eve, as it has so many damn restrictions on it. Yet people keep getting them because STEAM is the only place CCP seems to have actual real deals (Not some pathetic 10% off PLEX deal.) on eve accounts. But then your stuck with steam, and I believe (Unless it has changed) you still can't even transfer your STEAM characters to a real Eve account.

Ok, enough grumbling from me, hope you find your answer.

Can your Steam account send a Buddy Invite?

If you can send a buddy invite then you will most likely get the rewards when your buddy upgrades (using the valid upgrade method) , as its all done automatically.

For an official answer you will need to file a petition.

Yes I can send buddy invites if I log in the website through steam. By petition do you mean support ticket?

Yes, a support ticket.

I also found this in the buddy invite T&C's (press the terms and conditions link under the big green button)

So I think you are good to go.

Ah thats good to know thanks! Hopefully there's no special exclusion when it comes to steam accounts seeing how steam players are always being treated by CCP like an illegitimate child.

Steam IS a "real" EVE account. The only restriction is that you can't get in the game if the Steam servers are down, which has happened to me once in 7.5 months. OTOH, my sub is ridiculously cheap, and I just got 15% off of a couple of plex. So far I'm not seeing a huge downside other than going against nerd received wisdom

I understand why the general consensus around here hates steam and its for a good reason. I've only been playing for just about 2 weeks and I myself experience some limitations implemented on steam users that could easily be fixed but I just dont think CCP gives a crap. Some examples are

- You don't get the free 21 day free game time through trial and quite possibly the reward people offer through the buddy program ( 90% plex value )

- You can't dual client 2 steam accounts, I feel like the steam account - eve account integration is just really poorly implemented and it could have easily fixed if they actually wanted to.

- Services like sidekick program and multiple character training are not available for purchase through steam.

- Also if I remember it right, I read a post in reddit that steam eve account are not able to sell/buy characters through the character bazaar. This is actually huge and I could already tell that I will regret playing on steam some day.

Can't say exactly what I got when I first signed up, but it included the +8 boost and a bunch of ships. I think the buddy referral thing was already addressed ITT.

No, you can only run a single account at a time through Steam. If it means something to you to multibox then get a stand alone account.

Nonsense. I have multicharacter training active right now, and they actively sell the sidekick program on Steam.

I will not speak to what was or was not said on Reddit. However, it is possible you cannot transfer a character on a Steam account to a non Steam account, I will concede. I have heard anecdotially that you used to be able to, and that they will not as of a year or so ago. I have no idea how that would work in the character bazaar and would suggest folks consult support about that.

But these are marginal cases well off my needs as a player so

How can you purchase sidekick program through steam? Can you give me the link? That would really help since I really wanted to buy a second account.

I went to the Steam launcher, clicked the ad, and it forwarded me to

Just sign in using your Steam credentials I guess.

e. Upon reflection I might have misunderstood, its the EVE launcher that interfaces with Steam, but it let me log in via Steam to start the new account creation. I cannot say whether that account would be stand alone or linked to Steam however because I don't need a second account, and if I did ever get one it would be stand alone so I could multibox.

keep in mind you can only run one account on Steam at a time so if you want to multibox you'll need to figure that out.

If that happens..

Just throw the curveball back at CCP with their own ToS not clarifying it. As it says any paying account, and you pay for the game.

That said, I would say it's possible.

As, it is all done not through the game or what so ever but from the account management page.
So, if you can log in there and sent the invites and claim the rewards there...the rewards are then just added to your Redeem Items bin, which you can access from in game.
